textile snow chains or "snow socks"?

any good or bad experiences with this concept?

i obviously wouldn't be looking to drive around on these bad boys, but they seem like an awfully practical solution to those couple of times where you get stuck in a parking spot or need to get up a steep grade incline.

I think if you were stuck it'd be too late to get them on. I've never used them though and was wondering the same thing when I saw them the other day on ECS.

You can carry a small bag of sand and use when needed. It doesn't take much sand to get good grip when stuck on a parking spot. Combine it with a shovel and you are good to go anywhere.

i'm just thinking for 60 bucks it might be worth a shot.

sadly, 60 bucks is a tank of gas today. the beginning of my driveway has an 8 or 9 degree incline and it's a a bit of tight spot (just a couple of feet of clearance on either side). if these things come as advertised, it would save me a lot stress. i could install them in my garage and then back out...

I also think these socks would pose a problem. When you're actually stuck with freezing temps and a lot of wind at least I don't want to spend a lot of time putting on socks on my car.
Just listen to the other swede above, sand is great and it doesn't take a lot of it, as posted.
And yes, when there's heavy snow I drive around with my overall and a shovle as well....so call me paranoid

there is a thread about these and other traction devices over in Wheel and Tire forum. One poster replied he had tried them and had a hell of a time getting them on his sport package wheels.

How are you supposed to put these on when you're stuck? Tire on the ground, no jack in the trunk?

Have someone spin the tires while you stick yours hands under them?

Auto Sock vs Emergency Tire chains

I was almost sold on the autosock when I saw how easily the chick got them on but then I really was looking for something that would get me out of a messy parking spot.
I don't think sand would do it. I am in Brooklyn & the city has not cleaned the streets well this year. I just spent 1 1/2 hours breaking ice & shoveling to get my car out of a spot. I used to use emergency tire chains but I threw them out because I did not use them for so long... also they may scratch my low profile rims. I was looking for an alternative to chains.

I think I may go with these Ice Grabber Stud Straps:

http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/tire...er-straps.html

Just not sure if they would get me out of an ice covered incline. Those old emergency tire chains would get my car out of anything.

Looks easy enough... and looks like a great product for extra traction. But I don't know if it would work well if your tires are spinning while your vehicle is moving. I would think that could wear away all of those little fibers. Has anyone used them in that type of situation?
