Trunk spoiler installation

Hi everyone, I just ordered a E90/LCI/M3 Carbon Fiber M3 Trunk Spoiler with JBSpeed. It is supposed to come in with 3M tape, is this pretty easy to install? I am planning it to install it my self. Thanks

Yes, a rear spoiler with the 3m tape is an easy installation.

I've installed two different spoilers using 3M tape. Both times, a corner of the spoiler lifted up. You have to line it up perfectly and get it installed just right without messing up the adhesive. Also, you may be able to see the tape due to its thickness - I was able to with my JBSpeed M3 CF spoiler. It bothered me.

If you don't mind it being permanent, I recommend using Betalink instead.

And yes, please take the M emblem off.

Yes, very easy install.

And I agree, M-Sport or not, the M badge should not be there.

The ///M badge is acceptable on a non M car as long as there is a second ///M badge to the left of the Roundel, and equidistant to it.

I went to a local body shop and they actually installed it for free, prepped it under a heat lamp and everything. They just asked me to keep them in mind for future mods.

That spoiler wont fit because your car is not correctly equipped to wear it. That ///M badge is out of place and the car will feel stupid.
Next time you want to get a fake, make sure it looks somewhat the correct size.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am sorry for the M badge. I am new to the forum, so I did not know that it is a sin to have them on. I figure I imitate until I can actually have them in the future. I will make sure I am back in Germany when I get one so I can actually drive it like M series should be driven. Having and M series in the states it useless unless you are driving it in the track. That's the main reason why I got the 328i instead of 335i. Once again, I apologize for offending everyone.

haha, no need to apologise at all, at least certainly not to me. Maybe you are a little new to BMW too? Most BMW enthusiasts believe the ///M badge on a non-M BMW as sacrilege. (My post above was heavy tongue in cheek.) The driving masses probably couldn't tell the difference between an ///M and an AMG badge on your car, so whom are you trying to impress? The more acceptable solution is to debadge your car, i.e., just leave the Roundel. It's clean and a lot of Bimmerphiles agree it looks sharp. Cheers.

aleckzandr, It's actually my third BMW, but i was never a hardcore owner. I had 5 series and 3 series while I was back in Germany. I feel in love with my first BMW after driving it in Autobahn. When I got back in the states, I sold it. I just order my 3 series back in Sept and delivered last month. I got a little crazy with the M badge after having it as an option, not knowing what it means to the hardcore owners. For the respect of everyone, I will remove right away.

Dude, it's no big deal. There's a clerk who works at my office that has "SS" badges on his Chrysler Sebring. It adds about 72rwhp, I'm told.

But, to be productive... I thought about adding a spoiler to my e92, but the installation was something I wasn't sure about. I consider myself very mechanically inclined, but cosmetics and details have never been my strong suit. Also, slight imperfections really piss me off (as the GM at the BMW dealership that told me to F Off. lol I also mentioned I was willing to return my 335 to their showroom floor, and they wouldn't even have to open the door... )

Thanks for removing the M badge. I also do not agree about having a M is useless in the US. I have a 335 and love it. I know my next will def be a M.

Someone above posted about the corners lifting. Same thing happened to me with two different spoilers. They are easy to stick on, but maybe a little tough to make sure the corners are perfect. Just make sure you test fit without tape before and use painters tape or something to mark exactly where it needs to go so there is no guess work when its ready to stick.

It's so nice to see forum members get along.

Welcome and congrats on the new 3. Double side tape sound work fine, I've had two spoilers installed with double sided tape and I've never had any issues.

Cool you are taking the M badge off man. And glad to see people being "gentle" with the flames...

That reminds me, somewhere I have a photo of an "m8" spotted at a local Starbux... a 5-series "M8" no less... I think that guy topped everyone for misplaced / fictional m badges. Need to find it and post for general bemusement.

You paid for your car, wear whatever badge you want. The dumbsh!ts on this forum who want to police the wear of the "M" need to get a frickin life. They're making this a very unfriendly place to be...

Actually, you're the only one who really said anything that was really "unfriendly", the rest of us never called him or anyone dumbsh!ts.

We were just trying to help him from getting abused on the road. I agree with you it's his car (and it really is beautiful) and he can do with it what he wants, but when people see any M badge on a car, they all want to race or "teach you a lesson" if they know you don't actually have an M and can beat you.

I ordered the same spoiler from JBSPEED and found it amazingly easy to install. It's nice if you have an extra person to help you put it into place but it's not difficult to do it by yourself. Make sure the area you're going to tape is clean and dry.
