I know that Shiv has stated this in one of his posts, and this is probably where you are getting this from, but I find it hard to believe that it would cause compressor surge since that's what its made to prevent. I'm not doubting Shiv, but I can't see how the 335 would be any different from any other turbo car when it comes to having a BOV. Maybe the spring was too stiff? On my Tial BOV it stays open when the car is at idle, I wonder if this was the case with his also or if it was closed, which would indicate that the spring was too stiff.

if your not making enough boost it can surge, your chance to surge is higher then it is with the diverter valves, since it wont surge with the diverter valves you are just increasing a risk, BOV's offer no advantages, with all mods you have disadvantages in some way, with no advantages all that can be left is a voided warrenty and/or something else to go wrong

That's why I said if it had too stiff of a spring. If you put the proper spring in there then you shouldn't have any problems. I think we all realize that unless you are boosting a huge amount, which no one with a 335 at the moment is, it is all for sound. Some people like to hear their turbo cars, call it rice or whatever you like, but you shouldn't feel like you are hurting your engine by installing a BOV because that isn't the case if its the proper setup.

If your Tial BOV is open at idle, you have the wrong spring installed. Tial has a chart available on their website that tells you how to choose. Spring pressure is determined by how much vacuum your engine pulls (at full temperature) at idle.

Oh really?... this is news to me, thanks for the heads up. So what's the deal with people saying that the tial is causing compressor surge on the 335?

EDIT... I just looked at Tialsport.com and saw the chart for the first time, too bad some other people that spec turbo kits for the s2k weren't aware of that either.

lol thanks guys but as i mentioned above the wife was going to kill me if i left it on!! IT sounds awesome as hell...its actaully not too loud when your driving i kinda liked that!! Its got a nice open air sound not like a whistle like most bov's.. and one thing i noticed too is that most of the other parts get real hot around that spot and being a metal intake tubing that shit stays nice and cool to the touch!!
As of this morning its officially off my car!! Its up for sale pm for details!
My wife has won this batttle!! Im not too happy about having to get rid of it so maybe someone local will take it so i can still see it and have it bring a smile to my face when i hear it!!

well doesnt the 335i use a recirculating BOV and not a VTA(vent to atmosphere)? i know with my evo we upgrade the BOV because at high PSI the stock BOV cannot hold the pressure and starts to leak.

The reason we dont use a VTA is because if causes turbo surge to my knowledge.

But with the 335i if it's not boosting to much and from what i have read it's a recirc BOV as well. Wont installing a VTA BOV be harmful to the turbo?

Yes, the 335 as well as every other turbo car from the factory has recirculating diverter valves since VTA BOV's are not emissions compliant. VTA BOV's are made to prevent compressor surge, not cause it. A BOV will not harm your turbo, just use the right spring with it. If you like the sound go with it, if not don't because with the minimal boost pressure that the 335 runs your stock diverter valves can handle the job without any issues. Nothing like beating a dead horse.
