Adding Bluetooth

Yesterday while exploring the trunk in my newly purchased 328i and first ever BMW, that i love driving i cant get enough, i lifted the carpet in the trunk and noticed a module with a bluetooth symbol on it.
Ok so does my car have bluetooth? And if so i cant figure out how to sync it to my iphone. I would love to have bluetooth being that its a manual trans, it would be convenient making and receiving calls.

I have all the controls on the steering wheel, but they do nothing, i figured they are just giveaways on every model. If i dont have bluetooth can i install it somehow? Thanks

Do you have a button up by the map lights? Says SOS. If so then Yes you have bluetooth.

No SOS button. Only that bluetooth module in the trunk. I been reading a little and it seems you can add a bluetooth, these cars are prewired....anyone done this yet on here?

Did you get the manuals? small manual with telephone book

the bluetooth telephone book(manual) is the one with the picture of the telephone booth on the front. You can download it from the BMW usa website I believe.
if you do have it . You have to pair your phone with it on the radio or nav.I
don't know if all phones are capable of pairing with that unit. It should also say TCU or telephone control unit , the one in the trunk. Its better to add it in some other fashion than doing the BMW retrofit if you don't have it as its a very expensive through BMW.
The phone symbol will appear as one of the selections from the radio I beliveve its the upper
left button on the radio but not sure,

better to add it with something like this

That's where your Bluetooth symbol was found... that Bluetooth section is not enabled in the USA. Search for "MULF" and you will find information on how to enable this feature... it is not easy but it is possible, though.

I will, thanks. Been reading on the net like a mad man.....Im almost tempted to just get that Kenwood KOS A300, and call it a day.

Also when I plug in my iphone to the usb in the console, all it does is charge it! On the radio display it attempts to read/load something but stops, or fails. Why is the usb there if all it dose is charge devices? You could easily do this through the cigarette lighter!

You need the OEM iPod cable, not the Apple cable.

You can also set your iPhone iPod section as a HDD while using the Apple cable...

The other solution is to change the whole head unit

Although this is not easy due to the way the Head Unit is so integrated with the rest of the Electronics and has certain issues.
the advantage is you get a whole lot of stuff for what BMW gives you for just bluetooth.
The question is what the quality of something like this (see link below) and the side effects

Oh wow! Where do I get an OEM cable? What makes this cable different than an apple usb charger cable? So if i have an oem cable and i plug it into my iphone and the usb port in the console i can upload my phone info into the bmw computer?
