Its fine, but the general consensus on this forum is that procede is better. But you have to realize more power is more stress, you are raising the boost so of course there will be more wear. Go for it.

It hasn't officially been released...still in alpha testing so probably very little data on longevity. Look at the other forum and try searching a little more. And for the LOVE OF GOD ALL TUNES IF CAUGHT IN YOUR VEHICLE WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERY TUNE CAN CAUSE CODES!!! Now both can clear them or get a bt tool...please search...YOU TAKE A RISK BY TUNING YOUR CAR PERIOD.

increased boost = increased wear. Period.

There are people running 17 PSI day in and day out for 50k miles with no issues, and then theres people running stock with dying turbos, injectors, etc. However, running a tune will increase the occurrence of components failing. Whether you have an issue or not is entirely up to chance.

+1, however it's a pretty known fact that the N54 comes way detuned from the factory so with the right tune and bolt ons to aid cooling you should have a reliable car for many years to come.. I don't think the JB4 is officially out yet..

Jb4 wont be too much different in terms of wear.

Boost is Boost. Fuel is fuel. Spark is spark.

What will set it apart more then anything is how it controls those differently then Jb3.

I havnt invested much time reading too much. But I believe they have a better handle on fuel and boost with the Jb4. But dont quote me.

The end all be all is how a tune controls Boost fuel and Spark. So keep that in mind.

Ive known of cars with stellar tunes and they still have failed years later, but power = more wear at the end of the day.

We live in a world where if you use something, they will wear out.

It's like steroids. Some people show symptoms earlier than others after a while of using it.

Most of this is true, but if you have a tune that is prone to knock, if you push it hard enough it will severly shorten your engines lifespan. I'm not one to get into which tune produces more knock or not, I'm running a JB4 and like it so, I can't say anything about the V5 since I haven't run it myself. My 2 cents

both proceed and JB4 have the ability to monitor timing and ignition advance/retard. The more knock, the more potential for damage. If you are boosting above stock it is important to monitor timing for knocks. One won't blow up your engine (but one can blow it up). I am happy to say that since I have upgraded to JB4 I have yet to find a knock in any of my logs... from 14-18psi. Proceed has had a fairly clean knock record since its release as well. Lots of guys have switched from JB3 to Proceed recently and a bunch have switched back to JB4 since its release as well. JB4 is ready for Beta! If you need help ordering, I can help direct you to a dealer that has them ready to ship. Mike has access and monitors these treads for Burger.

If you plan to run 14psi or less, never use race gas or meth, you can save a bunch by picking up a used JB3 or Proceede V3 in the for sale by owner section. $349 for pin-out JB4... why wouldn't you get the latest and greatest?

You know the Jb4 does not have the ability to have ignition retard yet. Unless something changed in the past week or so?

Monitor timing... sure.

This^^

Funny how the iS they up the boost, and it is the exact same engine?!?! Guess BMW thinks the car can handle much much more.

Wut?

JB4 still can't directly control timing unless there is some information saying otherwise.

Isn't that the whole CP offset argument?

I don't have either tune...so enlighten me.

JB4 can only read timing advance. No CPS offsetting is available.

I have the carmax warranty, which covers everything regardless of mods. So I enjoy bringing my car in for something, and then when they say "The warranty is voided!" I sort of shrug it off and tell them to do it anyway. Then they do a double take because I guess usually people freak out at that time? So we go back and forth with this argument for several minutes, and they get all frustrated because I'm not treating it like a federal offense. Then I guess while they're fixing it, they're looking forward to me seeing the bill, but when it's time to bill me, I have them send the bill to carmax.

This happens every single time (side note: this hasn't happened yet with my 335, but my previous bmw was a carmax car as well and it happened a good five or six times)
