Fitting an LCI M Sport front bumper on pre LCI
This question has been asked many times before with opinions split as to if it can be done.
I have just fitted test fitted one to my 3er and have some issues with the top grille. The biggest difference between the 2 bumper shapes in that the kidney grilles are different, so the last photo shows both old & new in place. I was wondering if there was a way to make it look more factory fittet with either of the grilles? Just gotta paint it and find myself a rear M-sport bumper now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

nice work.
just use the pre lci grilles. if u want to use the facelift grilles then u will need new bonnet. p.s any issues with fitment as i may consider this mod! |

yeah i might do that and colour code the chrome parts like the '05 plate above so the gaps don't show up as much.
The only other issue is that the gog light bulb holders are different, so I need to chase a pair of them up too, but the bumper itself is a direct fit.

I didn't screw them in, but if they don't line up then I will just relocate the metal clips in the under tray.

guys, theres someone on classified who has been tryign to sell his LCI front bumper cover ready for paint and i was considering it myself but going for custom one instead but it appears no one wants to listen to him but he and two of his other friends just installed the front cover of an lci mtech in 15mins, two shaved the twop of the kidney grill and the one removed the outer boarder and fit 100%. he explained how we dont need the airducts and new fender liner unless your tracking your car and im confident many of us on here are not tracking our cars, why spend the additional dollars if its not necessary. someone should grab that mtech lci bumper for the the price. im shock no one has yet to buy it. i guess folks are willing to pay the 900 bucks instead

The grey model I posted earlier has the LCI grille pained black, you can just about see the top part of the LCI grill where it meets the old style bonnet, so I can see why shaving it could work. I have just bought a can of PlastiDip and will follow the DIY guide of blacking the old grille parts and fitting them in the new bumper so that it all looks black, although the current state of play is that I still don't have an E91 M-Sport rear bumper yet so I won't send the parts to the bodyshop until I have them both. I have a pair of LCI M-Sport sideskirts for the E90/E91 if anyone wants me to post a ForSale Ad BTW. You'll have to contact the owner, 1981tucker.

Thanks!
My dealer did the paint and install. They said that everything swapped over no problem. Everything lines up perfectly. I did, however, buy all of the parts required to do the conversion. |

UPDATE....
The bumpers came back from the bodyshop on Friday, but it was too windy to get them on the car yesterday, so I spend the day refitting the grilles, fogs & working out how to get the old top grille to fit the bumper properly, the answer was with cable ties. I then did the front today and the rear M-Sport bumper is in the garage awaiting fitting (hopefully on Wednesday). I'll do a write up on a new post linked here when it's all done as it's not as simple as bolting the new bumpers in place as there are other issues to overcome such as fog light conectors need modifying and the bumper side mounts are different, but I would appreciate your feedback on the follwing question... I have the chance to buy an LCI bonnet (hood) and send it to the bodyshop for painting, this would allow me to fit the LCI top grille too. The cost is reasonable, but do you think it's worth it as it looks quite nice at the moment, see pic.

I have a proper answer for you now having fitted it properly. There's a part that fits between the bumper and the cover under the engine. It's basically a plastic cover extention that bridges the gap between the two.

+1 the current undercarriage piece is almost identical, the only exception seems to be the added metal clips to allow you to attach the extension on to the original underbody plastic. I could easily see someone creating new holes and adding clips.
