Datalogging and ECU safety

I was told by some guys on e90 that running the datalogging wire out through the ecu was ok to do on a long term basis. I am hesitant to believe this bc of moisture damage to the ecu and its components. I want to begin datalogging on a regular basis and it seems to be a PITA to do all of the work involved in popping open the ECU. Is it recommended to just open the ecu every time I want to datalog or can I leave it cracked so the wire can hang out(so I can just pull the wire out and run it through the window/glove box)?

BTW: Anyone interested in some various OEM parts and random electronics, I just posted a bunch of stuff here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=471502

just run the cable through the firewall from the back of the ecu compartment into the car and then up into the glovebox. Then all you have to do is oven the glovebox.

Thats my plan, you still have to have the wire come out of the ecu white box, is there room for that wire? what work is involved? is that safe to do? It has so many latches on it because it isnt supposed to have any moisture in it. Has anyone experienced any problems?

There is a hole in the bottom of the box. You run the cable into the cabin from there.

It will make the job MUCH easier if you pull the actual DME unit out and have an extra set of hands pulling the cable in from the passenger seat.

I did this all by myself. It's simple. Once you put the cable through the specific hole it appears just under the dash. It's super easy.

Thanks, someone seems to have taken(stolen!) my cable from my house, I guess I will have to go get a new one. Does best buy carry these? Only reason I ask is bc I got a gift card for xmas. I know I could go get another at radio shack.

No moisture issues by running the cable into the glovebox.

That hole in the ECU compartment actually is a fan vent that dumps hot air from the ECU into the passenger compartment when the CPU reaches a certain temperature.
