How long is the build process?
Hi all ... dunno if I asked this before ... how long does the actual build process take for a E9x car? (suppose any car for that matter)

It's approximately one work week - five days. There's a very cool video somewhere that shows the entire thing from start to finish.

I think the actual building of the car takes just a couple or three days, but since they usually schedule as "week of" it's best to just figure a week.

If it took a week,it wouldn't get done...they build about 800 cars a day at various plants around the world..I believe it's built the day it's scheduled,it's on a production line, once it starts,it doesn't get off that line till it's done. It's easier to understand when you visit one of the plants. If you're interested, make the plant reservations to work with your ED pickup date, these are free tours that fill up very quickly since they can only take small groups.

Yeah, I know they pre-assemble most of the bodies and even pre-paint them, etc. But is the assembly line 24/7? Because if not, I assume that when they shut down for the day/week there are cars at all stages of production.

Yeah I think they shut down. Towards the end of the E46 build video, the workers stopped working (at what I assume is the end of the day) and suddenly started smiling and prancing around. I believe the steins of beer and packs of cigarettes followed quickly
