Dont buy at the dealer.
(You mean back to invoice GAP) They will rob you and the cover will be no better than buying on the internet. Do a search...

I got RTV (Return to Value) for my 1year old e91 320 SE, paid £18k for it but it's value at the time according to ALA was £23k - over 4 years worked out at £250ish IIRC. Best peace of mind ever as it will cover the finance charge shortfall and the value of the car if I stack it any time over 4 years. They didn't care that I only paid £18k for it. Pretty happy with that result.

As said, don't use the dealer unless they quote sub £200. I paid £175 on my 335i
If it's a new car, check with you own insurance, as many offer the first years back to invoice on new purchases FOC. Already included in you fully comp policy. |

Somewhere in the region of £140 to £180 should be about right for 3 years cover , 20k limit. You can probably lower the claim limit to say 15k but worth playing around on quote websites as sometimes you can get 20k cover for little more than say 15k, you may not ever need the full 20k but peace of mind to know you are well covered. I use Surf and Protect and have found them very helpful, you can use an online chat function to ask any questions including the " whats your best price" question!!

Why go vehicle replacement ? Will you really want exactly the same car say 3.5 years down the line? I would prefer the back to invoice option so you get your cash and can buy what you fancy.

Return to invoice would not buy the same car without going through all the haggling and promotional offer scenarios that were originally present. The only potential for a grey area might be when your model is obsolete and the value is based on the nearest new model equivelent. It all depends on individual circumstances and attitude to risk....GAP is only good for writing your car off, which I believe is low in the probability stats, but sods law sometimes happens! |

Yes this sounds like a lot however there is a lot more to the dealers GAP than you think. IE it covers a lot of moneys worth of smart repairs! which depending on how bothered you are about keeping nice looking alloys paintwork etc can be worth the money.

Dont forget.
You dont need to cover the entire cost of the car. Only the potential shortfall or depreciation. No point on a £20K policy over 3 years on a £18 AUC for example, £10K would cover it. Resoning being it probably wont lose more than 10k in three years (value then at 8k). Only pay for what you need - more is wasted premium
