BMS DCI Install

Got my BMS DCI kit today and installed it after work. Was able to do it without removing the cowl. The trickiest part for me was the snorkel clips, despite what the guide says, they don't really push in. I had to use a screwdriver to pry it loose.

Before putting the rear filter on, I reversed the clamp so that I could get at it with a screwdriver more easily.

Overall it's pretty cool. I think the AFE kit looks pretty sharp, but I didn't want to spend that much. Because the filters are kinda just hanging in place, I will probably feel the need to check them more often. For some reason, my rear filter seems to be snug against the wire loom, whereas in the BMS guide, it seems to be over to the right further. Can't complain for a $100 mod.

To be honest I'm not sure if I noticed it. The truth is, it sounds like something is rattling on the other side of the engine, and that was drawing my attention. I'm going to give it another listen tomorrow when I take it out for a cruise, and in an open area (I installed it in my parking garage, with the exhaust against the wall, so I'm not sure if I got a good listen).

Hopefully I can meet up with some other members sometime soon and have them listen.

To clarify, I don't think it sounded like the lifters. I'll try to post a video tomorrow, not necessarily for the rattling but for the intake.

Unfortunately it was a little chilly in SF tonight, and I didn't have them down.

I'm sure it's there, I think I'm just a little excited about the next mod.

Did you have to bend the OEM plastic accordion a lot to get the rear filter to clear the intake manifold and throttle body? I'm having some trouble getting my rear filter to fit and am wondering if this is normal? Is your rear filter sitting hard pressed against the TB or intake manifold?

putting this on a stock e92 335i will lose hp correct? But will you be able to hear the turbo more?

The rear was definitely troublesome. In the pic, you can see it was rubbing against the cable loom. When I came home after a drive, things were a little warm and more flexible, so I readjusted it.

I'll have to get you another picture to show where it lies now. It's nice, but it's one of the reasons I'm considering switching to a more solid setup like the ETS intake (whenever they release the damn thing).

edit: I should note that this doesn't hinder what this mod is at heart. You shouldn't pay more to expect more performance from another DCI setup. The only reason I'm considering something like ETS (similar to the Injen) is for a better look. If you want dual cones, this setup is fine and great for the price.

Well I wouldn't have bought it if I thought I would lose power. Since it's the same engine, I can't imagine you would lose power either. The nice thing about this setup is the simplicity, it's literally a bigger intake attaching right to the stock hoses, you're not introducing any new bends or travel in air flow.

Cool, thanks. For $100 you cant beat the value. Ugly as sin in my opinion though haha. I'll just have to keep my hood closed
