Another iPod Solution
Since the early reports of BMW's new iDrive integrated iPod interface are less than stellar (time to load iPod contents, switching speed, lack of full ipod functionality, etc), and the fact that I am leasing my vehicle, I've been researching low cost alternatives for mounting and cabling my iPod to the Aux input in the center console. I wanted to be able to mount the iPod firmly in a place where the iPods controls would be accessible.
I am resigned to the fact that controlling the iPod via iDrive just isn't in the cards for this vehicle, as is powering/charging the iPod from the car. My proposed solutions will cost < $100. At some point I may even add a remote. Here is what I have come up with: 2 part mount from Proclip - it's E90 specific, and has a pretty decent look for a non mod, no drill piece - it hooks in under the passenger side console. The associated holder for the iPod allows for the standard iPod cable to be used (more on that later) The cable will use the line level output, and I will somehow route the cable (hopefully under the console - any hints/advice appreciated ) to the AUX IN port in the armrest. Chime in with your thoughts. I plan to pull the trigger on this in a matter of days.

With the remote, you can keep the iPod in the console and not need the proclip. You'd need to pull it out to change playlists but if you have one big shuffle list, it can stay in console charging with the Monster charger and line out to aux.

I'm thinking of going with a remote also. I like mine in the center console so it's not visible.
Your idea sounds great, the only problem for me would be either it's visible for someone looking in the car or you'd have to take it with you every time you leave the car. |

The reason for this solution was to have all of the iPod functionality/display available.

Poor Man's iPod integration (w/ photos of course)
Here are the pics of my poor-man's iPod integration. I wasn't interested in forking out probably $500 for something that would take a while to load my 2,000 song ipod. Using a two part mounting solution from Pro-clip (www.proclipusa.com) and this cable http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1172633636
http://www.cablestogo.com/product.as...=614&sku=35508, I was able to mount the iPod comfortably adjacent to the console, and will control the iPod by using it's own controls. I was also able to run the cable into a notch in the carpet and console on the passenger side and feed it into the console by only making a small cut in the plastic tray. Total cost was under $100. Pardon the dust in the pics.

Looks great. This would be on the top of my to do list if i didnt order the 6fl ipod option. Is the clip very sturdy or will your ipod go flying off once you hit a bump in the road?

The mount is actually a two part solution. First is the holder which is specific to the 80 GB Ipod. The mount is spring loaded and velvet covered (not too cheesy) and holds the iPod securely.
http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionpa...p_leftorright= The next piece is the mount specific to the E90 - the two just attach securly via a few screws http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionpa...p_leftorright=
