BMW Dealers returns policy?
Hello,
I am thinking of purchasing a specific part that i may need from the dealership but i may not end up using it. So can anyone tell me what the returns policy is when buying parts? Cost of part is around the £100 mark. Many thanks |

Ring up and order and pay by phone and ask them to arrange delivery to you - that way it'll be covered by the Distance Selling Regulations

Any special orders are non-returnable, common sense really.

In the motor trade, all special orders are non-returnable. Anneka will confirm.
But, if you find a dealer parts dept stupid enough to order in non-stock parts and accept them back after selling them online you're onto a winner!

Right - I'm going left-of-field here, but go with me:
Why don't you phone them up and ask them as opposed to asking a bunch of people who don't work there?

Sorry, I didn't see this!
At Sytner, if the part is in stock in the UK, you have 5 days to change your mind for a full refund. If it needs to come in from Germany it will be non returnable. Other dealer franchises may have different rules though, it will be best to ask when you are ordering. Hope this helps. |

I'm quite confident that BMW's legal department will be more than aware of current DSR legislation, thank you. As always and already pointed out, it is best for the OP to check with his local dealer. |

I think what themetz is trying to point out is that it doesnt matter where the supplier (in this case the dealer) procures the goods from. If the customer purchases in a scenario covered within the distance selling regulation then those regulations take precedence, regardless of individual company contractual terms or policy.
That said of course, the dealer remains at liberty to refuse to sell the goods under a scenario covered by the DSR. |

Factually this may be correct, but a little redundant isn't it when the OP hasn't said anything about mail ordering the parts and no one, including Anneka mentioned it either??
'Both' correct in what they have said. I think what Anneka is saying is stating their position for 'over the counter' sales i.e. where you pay for and collect your parts from one of their dealerships, in response to the OP's question about buying from a dealership. However me looking at posts beyond where distance selling has been mentioned, looks in a way like "Anneka you're stupid and you/your company don't understand the DSR". Although I am sure all was said with the best of intention, it does frankly look rude. She has in no way disagreed with themetz, but simply clarified she is not referring to distance selling in her answer, which I'm sure she also understands. OP what is the said part? Have you checked with where ever you're ordering from whether or not the part you would like to order is returnable? I have another suggestion, before starting any work why not check how long it would take for the part to arrive should you need it, if you're lucky it may be in stock anyway. Start the work and then order if you need it, would also save you the hassle of ordering and returning. Having dealt with so many dealers of so many marques (serial tinkering bug syndrome) and different types of equipment that I feel rules vary from place to place. In fact I would say BMW are very lenient. The general rule of thumb from my personal experience is if its special order then its non returnable or subject to restocking fee, and if its in stock they take it back without any restocking fee if you're lucky. Going off topic a bit but the thought ran through my head the other day about how long it will take for the main supermarkets to get in on the act of selling cars. I mean they sell everything else and keep branching out in to other areas, they've done petrol so why not cars and servicing?
At least we'd get cheaper and better service and probably a 28 day money back guarantee/returns as they have with everything they sell. More competition I say! |
