Different types of license plate lights/sockets?

Hey guys,

I just was at AKMotorwerks (forum sponsor) to have some stuff installed on my car.

My car is a 2008 335xi coupe (9/2007 build date). I bought the car CPO... the car already had LED license plate lights but were not really really crazy bright. So i bought these ion led license plate lights (they looked like this ** ignore the ecs tuning logo **:

Well, when Alex went to put them in, he realized that my setup was the OEM setup that are on the newer cars and the setup above doesn't work... what kind do I need? Mine had wires going into the side, and they were in a black casing..is this 2009+?

If your car already has the OEM LED type then you will need the full housing replacements.
