Welcome to the site. Check out this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=343673

Generally speaking, you'll need to add an aftermarket amp to power the replacement 8" speakers, and, depending on which sound system you have, you would be well advised to contact member Technic to purchase one of his wiring harnesses that allows you to add the amp to your factory system without cutting any wiring.

If you do some searches on the 8" speakers found in the thread above, you'll discover a wealth on info to guide you. Good luck!

You may probably want these: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=476614.

Be quick, it's a good price! (But will the seller ship to the UK?)

Then get Technic's harness and a an amp with around 200W per side. But I'm not going to spoon-feed you everything... do a search!

What makes you think you need to change the subs either? It sounds like you haven't spent any time with the car to see if you really need to upgrade anything.

FWIW, even the Earthquake 8s are garbage. Are they better as a sub than the OEMs? Yes. They suck for anything else though. I'd keep the OEM 8s as a midbass and add a trunk sub.
