I been planing to replace all my oem bridgestone tires to Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP (yea i want to stick with runflats), but recently I just got my front two tires replaced with brand new bridgestones via tire insurances from impact bubble. So instead of replacing all four, is it ok to just replace the rear twos with michelin and keep the new bridgestones in the front?

another side question, if i switch to michelin tires, and get a nail, or bubble, will the insurance replace them with another michelin or they would only give bridestones in the future? thanks for reading

I literally asked a few friends the same question. I got a few responses along the same lines. Basically it was about making sure that the tires are similar in ratings and that it COULD possibly make a difference if the tread pattern is VERY different. ex: one with channels vs. KDW's that have no channels. Or if the fronts are squared vs rounded in the back. But if they are similar in rating and tread, then there should be no problem. Maybe someone else can also confirm this?

I wouldn't recommend mixing tires due to the different compounds and characteristics. This can be extremely dangerous during adverse weather conditions or evasive maneuvers. If you plan on using them temporarily until you replace them with the same tires to get from point A to B, I don't think it should be a problem.

I recently bought a set of winter tires(used), and 2 of the tires are 80%, and the other 2 are about 75%, theyre 2 different brands
is it a bad idea to be using this setup?

I really don't see the big deal running different brands of tires, as long as the front and rear use the same brand. I am planning on replacing my rear OEM Michelin run-flats with either Pirelli P-Zero Nero or Hankook V-12s.

I see other people running different types of tires on ALL 4 corners all the time, and I have NEVER heard of others having accidents due to different brands of tires. I am not about to shell out $350+ for a run-flat, but then again I am not about to change out my front run-flats when they have more than 50% treads left.

thanks for the replies. I am leaning towards just replacing my rear with bridgestones instead. I hear the michelins are better, but not night and day different. probably not worth the hassle to deal with tire insurances issues since i got two more years left.

^ You want to night and day different, go with none run-flats man. I went through three sets of wheel + none run-flats (both 18s and 19s) before I return to OEM 189s with run-flats. Run-flats are so loud on the road and the car feels somewhat floaty for some reason.

If you enjoy unpredictable, squirrely handling, then by all means mix tires front to rear. If not, keep the same brand, make, model and type (RFT or non) tire on all four corners.

I'm running General Exlaim UHP's in the front and Vredsteins in the rear for a couple 1000 miles now and haven't had any issues at all. The only reason I'm doing this is that my fronts were like new while I go through rear rubber like candy, 4 sets to 1 in the front.
I have driven in rain, snow and dry. I wouldn't know they weren't matched except the Vredsteins grip so much better than the Generals did.

Drive like a civlized person and youll be fine. Ppl swear like the car will just turn on its own. Ive mix matched tires for the past 15 years.

Back to the OP: Mixing different tread patterns, compounds or brands is a bad idea.
