another type of FI on a BMW

I know it's not a turbo, but still pretty cool. I helped my buddy install this ESS Supercharger onto the motor this weekend on his 05 E46 330 ZHP. Stage II...~400 hp. Car is heavily modded and very clean. More pix to come as this install completes later this week.

It took a lot of work, but he did it right. Took the front bumper and crash protection off the car off first, then rebuilt the vanos, then upgraded the cooling system with a lot of new parts, cleaned up the wiring harness and replaced other misc parts (pulleys, hoses, etc). This install is not for a novice. Needs a professional install. My buddy can install ANYTHING and does it right. His tool collection is impressive and he has a compresser as well as a heated garage. He's modded Supras, 911TT and other performance cars. He never ceases to amaze me with his ablilty to tackle a project. Hed did most of this install himself. I only helped when he needed a second pair of hands. Lot of hours went into this install, but will definitely pay big dividends.

Yes, it is a twin screw Lysholm unit and I believe it's 400 to the wheels....not sure but you can check ESS's website. Stage III is even higher, but you need different pistons or a thicker head gasket at a minimum.

Cost for the unit is $7,000 + installation (not sure of cost, but typical install is 18 hours). Lots of misc oem replacement parts on this though not required was definitely "cheap insurance".

This unit also comes with a water-to-air intercooler. Pretty cool unit.

This was only one of many pictures (of the whole process) and was taken after we mounted the SC unit last night....took an hour just to do that considering all the hoses and electrical connections underneath the new intake manifold. I will post more in the next week.

I think he is planning on firing it up later this week....Can't wait.

^ true, but Mercedes is def more expensive to mod. I had an AMG before this 335 and it was absurd how much perf parts were. Really kept modding to a minimum. I've gone wild on the 335, albeit a lot of the parts were used, due to the "affordable" costs....

yeah it's Jon's blue E46 you saw during the euro codes tuning.

should be interesting how fast it is....E46s are pretty light....Tim, you need to stop by when we do my sways in two weeks....also check out the CF trim I'm doing for the 335 as well.
