Any way to control my iPhone's Ipod through iDrive?

I have the iPod/USB cable that BMW gives out. When I plug it in to my iPhone 3GS it says the accessory isnt compatibe. I can not see anything. Playlists, albums, podcasts, etc. I can play if I start the song/podcast on the phone, but that kinda defeats the purpose. Plus the BMW cable is so short that the phone has to sit in the center console.

What do I need to do to control my iPhone iPod though iDrive in my 08 335i?

do you have the right USB cable? I usually play my ipod through it and control it through idrive but every now and then i'll put my iphone in and it works fine, even charges it! I have same model year and whatnot...

+1.

Make sure you have the USB and AUX connector at the end of your iPod adapter cable.

For your model year there is, it is the "Y" cable. It will have the standard iPod connector on one end with two attachments on the other end. The end with 2 attachments will have one USB connector and one 1/8" connector. Both of them will get plugged in and give you full control of your iPhone's iTunes via the iDrive. (I should be iSmacked for using three "i's" in one sentence.)
