Noobs Guide On Aero Parts...
Hey guys I have been on here for about 2 weeks now. Reading, searching and studying .... and Im confused on one thing ...
I see everyone talking about the M-Package / M-Kit / M-Sport / M-Tech / OEM Aero / ect. Now I know some of these are different then others ... for example: This is the OEM Aero For the E92: And this is the M-Kit by E92Kits.com UPDATED This Is The OEM M-Sport / M-Tech / M-Package: M-Package (E90) Now what are all these other M kits? I mean is the M-Package a factory option in Europe but not here and thats why E92 Kits made their own? or what? I have also seen some people post M6 style bumpers ... but they appear the same at the M-Kit by E92 Kits ... are these different? If someone could help me list out all these M-WhatEver Kits and pics of each in this thread so noobs like my self can see the differences that would be awsome! :rocks: UPDATE 2/20/07: If you guys know of more aero kits that are not listed on the thread or any other kits by a manuf already posted please post a link and I'll add the pics. I want to try and make this thread in to a noobs guide to Aero kits for the E90/91/92 ! ________ halfbaked Last edited by Vegas_Sirk; 01-24-2011 at 02:23 AM.. |

The first two pics are the OEM aero kit, others are an aftermarket kit.

OK, not sure about all of them but the 'M' package and 'M' sport maybe the same thing looking at some of the threads, it just terminology. That package is OEM and due out around the March/April time frame according to many rumors.

continuing the noob questionnaire, now all these M-kits and Aero Kits are just for styling purposes or add any performance to the original 335I after install. Also, if I getting a new BMW and want to have one of these kits installed, is this something I need to order before my car is being built or basically buy seperately and go to a autoshop?
Thanks |

Oh ok ... so there is basically 3 kits ... Currently yes...but others will likely be out by other replica companies!
OEM Aero which is the first pic above ... Yes...its been out already. I believe this was just a body kit. M Sport / M Package Which is coming out later this year (added the pics to first post) Yes...it resembles the "M-tech package" that was already out for the sedan. This included a body kit, and some interior changes...different steering wheel, door sills, different hand brake, and different shifter for 6mt. Usually has the ///M logo on the interior changes to signify Msport or Mtech...whatever you want to call it. So this option was items for both interior and body modifications. All OEM. and the M-Kit which is a aftermarket kit made to look like the M5 Front bumper Yes, several aftermarket companies are in race to get these done to capture the most out of the market. Some are replicas (meaning they use OEM concept design to create their product) and some are independent original designs (some have interior design changes as well)...thus these are not OEM. Since some use similar names to OEM, its a marketing thing, and can get consumers confused. Bottom line...are these replica (basically fakes or renditions of the OEM) or orginal aftermarket (not OEM, but also not really copying anything--original designs by vendor). Correct? Am I missing any ? Also are these M Packages available for the E90 as well? There are other kits out there for the sedan (E90) which may use a spin on Aero, Mtech, Msport..or may not use them at all. The most popular is the OEM M-tech/Msport. But, yes..there are others out there.

Most definitely styling purposes. Some might argue minimal aerodynamics..etc. but I think its mostly BS. Also, if I getting a new BMW and want to have one of these kits installed, is this something I need to order before my car is being built or basically buy seperately and go to a autoshop? Both. You can order OEM before hand (can even come painted already) and have dealer install for you....this is by far THE MOST EXPENSIVE route. You can order OEM from various sources...depends on what you are looking for...and have a local body shop paint and/or install it. MEDIUM COST You can order replica/aftermarket from various vendors...and have it painted/installed by local body shop. LEAST COST. Oh...you can also have a fellow member install for you or DIY if you are able...this will lower labor cost...but of course, you still have to pay for parts and paint.
