NYC: how does one transfer a personalized plate to me?
My uncle has a plate i would like to put on my car. It is from the 70s, and he no longer uses it on his vehicle after being in a wreck (he got regular, non personalized plates upon purchasing a new car).
He only has one plate left, as the other was destroyed. Can this old plate be brought to the DMV so the character combination i want can be released? Or is the particular character combination i want void forever since the plate isn't actually registered to a vehicle anymore? Lastly, will they accept a return on only one plate or do I need him to bring in both? I'd call the DMV, but they aren't open anymore, and frankly, i've gotten so much false information from them that i don't even trust what they say anymore. don't want to waste his and my time on the DMV line during a weekday for nothing. |
