Just Failed Inspection - Need Advice
Car is an 08' 335 with V5 tune and intake. I live in Texas and just tried to get the car inspected. The vehicle inspection report had the following results:
Catalyst: Not Ready Evap: Not Ready 02 Sens: Not Ready 02 Sens Htr: Not Ready So do I need to remove the Vishnu to get the car inspected and is it why these systems are off? Any help you guys have is appreciated. I did a search but didn't find a solution. |

Go to a different inspection. My guy gets in, honks the horn, flashes the lights, blinkers, puts his seatbeat on and goes around the block. Comes back and good to go.

That still won't explain why he's throwing a Cat readiness code and evap code... Neither a tune or intake should affect this...

Yes they would. At least thats what Shiv had said about codes. What happens is that when the dme checks the o2 sensors it resets the cycle so the cycle restarts and checks everything again and right before the o2 it restarts.

Only mods are the tune and the Injen intake - nothing else. I would go to a different shop but you end up having to pay $40 before you know if they will pass a car or not.
That's how it is in Texas - you pay regardless and they give you 30 days to fix the problem and bring it back to get the sticker. ![]() |

Hi guys,
The Procede won't keep your car from achieving these readiness states. The only exception is if you run catless downpipes and rely on the CANclear system to keep the dash light from coming on. In these conditions, the Procede keeps clearing the pending cat inefficiency codes which prevents catalyst readiness. But if you have factory cats, you should never trigger any cat codes. So the CANclear system will be doing nothing. And you should achieve all the readiness states like normal. OP-- If you'd like, turn off the CANclear function in the user adjustable menu and drive some more. Shiv |

OP maybe you have a bad sensor which is making the procede believe that there are no cats etc. This would then cause the non readiness

Possible335i can you PM me please.
Shiv - thanks for the tip I am going outside right now to turn it off and drive a bit. The shop is close so I can stop by and have them scan it again - maybe before they close today. |

Shiv- I'm not entirely clear on what to do which is why i haven't gone from 4 to v5 yet. I'm totally catless, and in NC they plug into the OBD port for any codes. With CANclear V4 passed with flying colors, but how am I going to get around this issue now with v5 as I understand the function the functionality won't be there to give them the readiness codes? Does this mean I have to downgrade back to v4 for every inspection? I've got three months to figure it out, but I was hoping it wouldn't be an issue anymore. Any more tricks in the pipline too get around this issue that a lot of us are having? Many thanks.

It can take several drive cycles to set all the readiness codes. There is a warm up check, idle check (Let car idle for 5 mins), acceleration check 1(accelerate at ~50% throttle from a crawl to highway speeds), Steady state cruise (cruise for 5-10 mins on the highway), Decelerate slowly from highway speeds to a crawl, acceleration check 2(accelerate at ~75% throttle from a crawl to highway speeds), steady state cruise (5-10 mins), decelerate to a cruise. I think you should be able to stop off at a parts store to have your readiness codes checked. If they still are not getting set, pull the procede and run the basics above to try to get the readiness checks set. Shiv, are you resetting some of the ECU learning constantly like you are the DTCs? Does the procede fake the readiness codes? Cheers, Rob |

ROFL.....wow...some people just shouldn't have tunes, or cars that can have a tune maybe. Good luck.

![]() ![]() Shiv answered this question earlier in the thread and in one posted a couple weeks ago. The CANclear function prevents readiness and should be disabled before attempting a drive cycle and inspection. For those running off-road or catless downpipes, the Procede user should set the O2 modifier option to 3, but you'll have to play with the values to find a setting that suppresses/prevents codes that allows readiness. Option 0 disables CANclear and the O2 modifier, which should be suitable for OEM (catalytic) downpipes. I'm curious where texas347 took his car for inspection and if they granted him a credit to retry after a driving cycle. I also live in Trophy Club (when I'm not working in Plano or traveling for work)-- it's a bit of a hike to get to a reputable BMW service location if you don't want to use a local grease monkey. |
