muffler help
Hey guys,
I want to get magnaflow mufflers welded on to my stock exhaust system to make my car louder. But I am getting confused on the magnaflow website and people talking about different part numbers, shape of the muffler, inlet/outlet piping, and so forth. I was wondering if anybody could help me out with my questions. I have a e92 335i and plan on putting my cyba quad tips on to the magnaflow mufflers. However, my question is does the round vs. oval muffler shape make a difference? Is it just look or does it sound different? Also, how do i know if i need center/center or center/offset piping? There are so many different part numbers on the magnaflow website that I do not know which one to get. And does the body length of the muffler make a difference as for sound? I have an e90. Not sure if the rear section of the exhaust is the same but I think it is. Either way, I used offset/offset on an oval can and used 2 1/2 inch piping. They fit almost perfect. The part number I used is 11236. One on each side. I can tell you that it is much deeper and there is a little drone at 2k. It is louder at low rpm but sounds pretty close to stock at high wot. If I could go back in time, I would either leave it stock or research an option that is throatier. I am going to look into cutting out the cats since I remember someone saying that cutting out the cats and doing the magnaflows was throatier and had less drone. Hope this helps.

well i heard that the oval ones are quieter compared to the round mufflers. I plan on making my car loud so probably i am looking at the round mufflers of magnaflow. I was leaning towards magnaflow race mufflers the one akbmw has on this forum. It sounds good and i wanted to do a quad tip set up too. What does it mean by offset/offset? I see on the website that some of the piping is in the center of the muffler while others are at the edge which one do i need for my car?

i just got magnaflow mufflers installed on my e92 335i and i have to say it sounds amazing. There is a slight drone but it is bearable. It gives a good bass to the sound of the car. I like it. Got it done at Mike's muffler in el monte. Great job Mike.

haha, couldn't agree more.
Josh, where in so cal are you located. We may need to meet up so I can hear the mufflers on your car to determine whether or not to go with larger/smaller muffler size. Looks like you used the 11" muffler body. |

alright! I'm glad Mike hooked you up. Isn't the little extra bass cool? It's not too deep and not too shallow. I need to go back to Mike's and get some better tips for my Magnaflow. Please post a video. I would like to hear what it sounds like. Do you ever go to the 626 meets?
