Front door speaker+tweeter install
I've searched, but I can't seem to find a thread on a DIY/step-by-step guide on installing front speakers and tweeters. 2011 328i here with HiFi.
Also, any suggestions on speakers if I want to just use stock amplification? Don't want to spend too much; I've looked at the "unofficial" list of compatible speakers on here, and it seems like most are either a) majorly expensive (not worth it without external amps) or b) discontinued. The stock speakers are testing my patience. Ideally, if it's cheap enough I'd upgrade the rears too but it's not a priority. I got a JL 12" in the trunk, so not worrying about upgrading the underseats either. Thanks! |

There is a DIY Board here
http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=172
There is a DIY on removing the outside mirrors that tells you how to remove the door panels There is also this If you have the Hi Fi system the existing speakers are 2 ohm and I didn't see any replacements that are not 4 ohm which will mean volume will be cut in half. You pretty much have to replace the amp to make things better at least thats what the wattage numbers indicate. It looks like you have to do both the amp and the speakers to get a good result. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=365866 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=technic You also may need shims and mounting rings. Some tweeters don't fit without modification I don't know which ones Last edited by ctuna; 01-31-2011 at 02:34 AM.. |

Here's the link to the door panel removal.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...DIY+door+panel I recently added tweeters to my doors. Removing the wood trim, the 3 screws, and then the interior door panel is fairly straightforward. Don't be afraid to use a little force when removing the interior door panel. Just a couple notes: 1)Once you loosen the interior door panel from the door, keep in mind that the wire from the 4" mid on the door is still attached to the door - just carefully remove it. 2) The passenger door has an extra screw (making a total of 4) which is behind the pull handle. You'll need to pry off the cover on the pull handle first. |

Dont know if you get these speakers in USA, but in South Africa, there are 2 major 2ohm speakers namely DLS K4 and Infinity 42.9i that work well in E90 without amplification

The DLS K4 is 4ohms although it follows the OEM configuration as its tweeter is connected in parallel with the mid with an inline capacitor. No separate crossover circuit.
