Are you a typical BMW driver?

So, read an interesting article in Wheels the other day where motorists in WA (I think?) voted BMW drivers as the worst BY FAR in terms of road manners. It was a survey where respondents were asked which car make they experienced most road rage related incidents from.

Of course there'd be some bias to this, but it's interesting to note that BMW, and not Merc or Audi received the pointy end of the stick.

I also have a personal experience to share from yesterday. As I was driving along an unfamiliar road, unbeknownst to me my lane was about to end. There was not much traffic around me other than an E90 that was behind in the adjacent lane. When I indicated to merge, the bastard accelerated to block me off and maintained speed so he was side by side. He didn't try to get ahead of me, he just stayed there to prevent me from getting out.

I dropped to 2nd and smashed the throttle to get ahead, leaving the lane just before it ended. Being quite pissed off at this unprovoked show of aggressive driving, at the next lights I stopped next to him and told him to get a faster car if he wanted to act like a total dickhead. He just smiled like the smug bastard that he was.

Then it hit me. I had just acted like a total ass myself in my fit of rage. Humbled by this revelation, I drove off calmly vowing never to overreact again. Maybe there was some truth in the survey.

+1 Agree to that... i work around the Milton area and there are wankers constantly driving like that... ALSO every 2nd E90 i pass on the southside seems to want to have a go at the lights??

I know my car is slow so I try to make a usual habit of not to driving like a dick ... only on rare occasions...

The older I get, the more nasty road rage incidents I see and as this coincides with me being in a more visible car, I tend to try to behave politely and defensively most of the time. My main vice is cornering as quickly as possible and in doing this I tend to wait back (as long as there isn't anyone much behind) then catch up. I sometimes wonder if this is considered aggressive but I figure it's better than sitting too close and getting impatient. More legal too.

I tend to find, since getting BMWs, that people in Sydney expect you will let them in which, for the good of traffic flow I almost always do. There are a few things that irritate me and make me behave less rationally. Worst of all are people who speed up when you overtake, especially those who have been driving slowly when you couldn't. This has been an Australian tradition since I was a child and I really wish it would stop. The other peeve is people who could merge behind you when you are the last car in a line (in moving traffic, not when lanes end or when you are in a constant line - that's fine) but drive alongside then expect you to brake and make allowances for their rank stupidity. Finally, people who accelerate to close a safe (and I mean safe) gap if (when) you indicate. Some days it feels like you are making allowances for every twit out there, but mostly its OK where I drive.

I do prefer driving in Germany or the UK although the standard here is steadily getting better.

I try to stay cool on the roads as much as possible, even though its hard sometimes. There are a lot of really stupid and impulsive drivers on the road already, so I just try to accept that not make it any worse. Its pretty clear that some drivers are completely nuts, so its better not to provoke them. Driving a BMW seems to make the bogans fired up for some reason.

It's always the ones in a business suit and sunnies that want to have a go.

Maybe it's cos I'm still young but sometimes it really fires me up when these guys decide to go out of their way to cut me off. I usually let people in when they need to (what's the point of risking an accident just to get one car ahead?) but some take it way too far.

don't really piss anyone off, usually stick to defensive driving and when the baby's on board have to be extra carefull ...
When by myself, except for taking off at the traffic lights maybe when am happy enough being the fastest to pull off(haven't figured out why my 320i always manages to beat every car at takeoff), then I let any one who cares overtake if they care to chase after a while.

I have also found that since I have put that "Baby Inside" Intel spoof sticker, no one has cut me off for a longtime when in the right lane on the highway, happened quite a bit before that.

I tihink I'm a pretty courteous driver, I tend to go out of my way to give others right of way, let people merge etc.

I wish people wouldn't get so angsty at the traffic lights. I enjoy the G force feeling from hard acceleration but tend to either have a bogan abuse me for no reason or try to race me.

That lends to me in general being quite slow off the mark which I find a little boring
