At what psi is a bov advised?

The stock N54 does not, of course, come with a blow-off valve.

At what level of boost is it advisable to add one?

Thanks.

IIRC all factory turboed cars are equiped with a bypass/divert valve.

I think the OP was saying the car doesnt have a BOV, but it has diverter valves, which are said to leak a certain boost levels.

I think it mostly depends on a car to car basis whether they need to be upgraded.

Its best to just get a boost leak test to determine if they are infact leaking and what boost level.

I think the consensus was anything over 15 PSI should be upgraded.

Yes, I was asking (though it was unclear) about when it was necessary to upgrade to a bov.

Appreciate your answer.

15ish. But it has nothing to do with diverter valves not holding pressures that high. Stock diverter valves have been known to start leaking after 15psi, but there are after market options. So there really is no reason to ever put a blow off valve on, unless you just want the sound.

In fact, I'm not into the sound of a bov. What are the other options to which you refer? Upgraded diverter valves?

Thanks.

Yah, specifically a Forge Diverter Valve.

But you can make some BOV's be silent too, if you plumb the released air back into the intake pipe.

You can also make the stock diverter valves be loud, if you have them dump to the atmosphere and cap the holes in the intake pipe.

The OEM valves are plastic and prone to leak. I would upgrade them as soon as you can. I think we did this as our 2nd upgrade. No point and modding if you can't run the boost

I am of the opinion that the car came with DVs so I kept with DVs. I just put a set of Forge DVs on mine. If you want to go with a BOV and you like the sound go for it. As far as when you do it I would say as soon as you tune. If the system can't hold the boost its a waste to run it.

I've been running 16 to 20 PSI for two years on stock DV's with no problems whatsoever and know several other stage 3 cars have been doing the same. In case aftermarket DV's or blow-off valves of metal are used, the induction pipe should be replaced as well. The stock plastic induction pipe is prone to crack at the DV's joints when heavier units are used.

Get a Synapse BOV and if you don't like the sound you can put a hose on it and divert it back into your intake. I was planning on doing this thinking the sound would annoy me but you can only hear it under high rpm shifts or if you are listening for it.

unless your planning on going over 20psi, with the stock turbos the stock dv's are good. no real need to upgrade them.

I am currently running a PROcede V5 with no other mods (intake, CP, and DPs are on the way!) and my stock CP/DVs leak pretty damn noticably. I think it is on a car by car basis as to wheter or not you NEED to upgrade. For me it isn't much of a choice.

Yeah I like the sound, doesn't bother me one bit.

Sounds doesn't bother me either... Inside the car you can't even hear it unless the windows are down.

And Greddy Type R, Soft spring. Notice its a hollow sound not a psssssss noise.

Remember, this is the Type R. Not the type S. here is a basic comparison:

And just for good measure here is more greddy type R bov sounds:

And here is a fast supra since i'm already OT:
