Question Change color of the seats/leather/leather inserts...

I wanted to know if it was a simple process.. buy new leather and goto a shop to de-skin the seats and put the new color on.. or do I have to buy brand new seats? Im curious to find out info on this but I searched to no avail on here so yea... anyone have an idea how much for the whole process? lol thanks

You can dye it, but I wouldn't do it on new seats. www.leatherique.com to check out some dyes.

Not sure how well this works. I used them on plastic before and it worked well. There's this stuff by Dupli-Color that's like a spray on Vinyl Dye.

See if you can find someone else with an e92 to swap interiors with you.. it might seem really annoying, but it's the best/cleanest way to do it, IMO. Leather dye on new seats just seems.. eh.

I wouldn't dye or re-skin a new seat.
Should've gotten a right color to start first and if you don't have it, try to swap the seat instead of re-skin or dye. That just seems little odd for a new car.

If you want to just change the color of your seats, your best bet would be to trade seats with another person. If you want to go a custom route with different color inserts or gathered inserts but don't want to pay for a full custom installation job, you can get new leather skins custom made and do it yourself. Recommendations would be to get new skins from Katzkin or Leatherseats.com. Reskinning your seats is not that difficult once you get past the initial fear of removing and disassembling your seats. I did this several years ago on my old Acura Legend Coupe with some leather skins purchased in a group buy from Leatherseat.com. All you'll need in addition to the new leathers is hog rings, hog ring pliers, and time. Pricing will vary depending on what options you choose, such as different colored inserts, gathered inserts, full leather seating surfaces, or just leather inserts, etc. My set cost me just under $800 for full leather seating surfaces on the front seats, leather inserts only on the back seats, gathered inserts, and heated seat elements and harness. The caveat is that if you have heated seats, you should check if they provide OEM style heating elements that are sandwiched between the leather skin surface and the bonded foam. When I got mine, the only option that they had was not OEM style - the heating elements were adhered to the foam seat cushions. The leather skins themselves had a thin layer of foam bonded to the leather surface, which when stretched over the foam seat cushions, reduced the effectiveness of the heating element. But for me, at that time, I was happy because I added heated seats which I didn't have previously.

So, in case you're wondering how it came out, you can be the judge: (This was a 1989 Acura Legend Coupe with 144k miles on it.)
