Thumbs up For those OUTSIDE the USA wanted a handheld Flash tune...

I have decided to start this thread for people outside the USA who may not realise there is another options for a handheld flashing tune for their N54 other than Cobb....

I know of many that want to convenience of a handheld flash but don't want to wait (months, years / never!) for these guys to develop one...

The ESS Directflash tune is THE tune to get. 370whp on Stage 2 flash.

The car really feels like factory when moving around town normally. Once you floor it, it turns the car into another beast. Like a true weapon. It is very smooth. Awesome!

People may soon start in their mind thinking I am from ESS but I am not. I am just very happy with this tune and result - is something I been waiting for to happen in the future for many years for N54.

The purpose is like any other who post about their Procede for example and share their happiness. It is not to only tell people I am pleased with the ESS tune but also that some may not realise the tune will actually WORK with their overseas models. I have seen people ask about Gulf spec, Australian Spec, Euro spec....they all wanted a handheld flash solution.

I did not know this myself as I assumed it was like the Cobb for instance who do not support or like GIAC where you have to send in your ECU if no local dealer (not going to risk doing that) for example.

All the best to tuners enthusiasts

Could you pls provide more feedback and info about: uploading process (time, smooth, crash, etc.), dyno graph, how map switch works, if and how can flash can be uninstalled or "freezen" in case of towing/assistance to dealer?

Sincerely, i knew a lot of tuners/flash, but i've preferred to wait 20days (14days for the hurricane and only 6days for shipping) to have my procede V5.

Well they sent the Directflash by express postage so I received it quickly.

The next thing I did was to install the softwares and update both the unit and the softwares from the internet (it is all automatically completed). This was around of 30 minutes - 45 minutes (maybe my connection slow?)

Anyway I connected a charger to the battery of the car. Then I proceeded to connect the handheld device to the OBDII port of the car. I followed the instructions (they give all instructions on a USB flash drive) to download my stock file from the car. This took about 1 hour.

I emailed this file to ESS. They emailed back with both stage 1 and 2 files within a few hours. Suprising to be so quick!

I installed this file onto the device then off to the car again. This time it took only about 15 min to do Stage 2 onto the car. There were warning lights on the dash but this is normal with any flash.

After loading the flash I cleared any codes with my BT tool. These codes were NOT engine/tuner codes (there were none anyway), but miscellaneous communication codes I found out. They would be wiped anyway after a few cycles of running the car. There were no freezes etc.

The car runs very well. In fact at first I thought there was no flash on the car.... until I accelerated! There is a dyno chart on the ESS website.

I like this tune because it apparently uses 14.5psi ...it does not stress the turbos or my DCT transmisssion and also does not make me lose too much traction (255 run flats on rear). My car has no other modifications.

To uninstall the tune I think all you do is write back the stock map stored on the device to the car. I have not done this yet so don't know the process or how long it would take. There is no instruction about this in the manual but when the time comes I will ask Roman unless he inputs now. The device can store many maps.

I hope this helps some people.

ESS couldnt even figure out how to program my ECU, had to mail it to PHX 3 times until I was told they were not able to program it. Plus their programmer is in Europe, which presents a huge issue when troubleshooting (time difference). Perhaps things have improved with the hand held flasher.

And they are not able to go beyond 14.5psi either, unlike GIAC. So not really an alternative if you're rather heavily modded.
