Going to Mont Tremblant

Hi guys. Some friends and I will be traveling up to MonT Tremblant on the 18th of February for a little snowboarding. Some of the plans have changed and it seems as though I'll be driving up.

My car is a 2009 335 coupe with Xdrive. I'm lowered a little bit (to around ZSP height) and on factory RFT with about 12k on them.

Do I have any reason to be worried about getting up there? Can some members from the Mont Tremblant area tell me what the conditions of the roads are like?

Thanks so much

Joe from Queens.

No one can tell you driving conditions that early.
If there is a storm, than you're in trouble. If not, than you should be fine as roads are clean all the way there. If you stick to the main road. You're only problem will be the drive way (or connecting road to your accommodations).

Over here, the law states you have to have winter tires on. But it doesn't apply to cars from outside of the province.

Just drive responsively and no need to mash the gas pedal nor the brake pedal either.

thats what im thinking. I'm easy on the gas. And i know when and how to drive in certain conditions. keep it in a low gear and use the engine to slow me down.

You're nuts without snow tires. They should be made mandatory.

They are mandatory in Quebec.

I grew up with Subarus and while they go well, they do not stop or turn better then any other vehicle in the snow/ice. Take it easy and pay attention well ahead of you for no surprises.

xi, or all wheel drive, will help propel the car, but does nothing to help stop the car.

XI is good, all seasons not so much. If it is relatively dry you are ok, if snow is in the forecast, it could get interesting. I would doubt that NY rentals would have snow tires, or do they? In Quebec, rentals do have winter tires.

You will definitely need snow tires if there is more than 1-2" of snow in the forecast.

We've been getting bombarded this season down here and i've been fairing pretty well. as for a rental down here with snow tires- not a chance in hell.

your car will be fine...

if the weather is inclement you'll wish you had proper snows (when glancing back at your baby in the ditch - possibly upside down on the wrong side of the road)

bottom line, it comes down to confidence and traction... we have winter for 6 months of the year, why not invest in tires created for it?

plenty of deals around this late in the season.
