Vogtland Coilovers vs. Springs/Shocks

I've been debating what suspension to upgrade to, and I'm a coilover guy... ran coilovers on my last two cars. I don't want to totally sacrifice ride quality though with my E90, so I was looking for the most comfortable coilover option out there <$1,000.

It seems to me that Vogtland coilovers are very well respected for the price and that they are the most comfortable. They have a twin-tube, low-pressure shock and a lightweight spring that is supposedly semi-low spring rate, stiff but not jarring.

Vogtland coilovers go for mid-$700s whereas a spring+shock combo would run me about the same and not give me height adjustment. I don't really mind that Vogtland coilovers are galvanized steel, because I rarely drive my E90 when there's snow on the ground. I usually wait till the roads are clear.

My main question is... what would you do to retain a comfortable ride but still have a stiff suspension (no bouncing around)? I'm currently on ZSP sport suspension, and it's too much of a boat feeling when I go over bumps or take corners fast, too bouncy and too much body lean.

Here's my options:

1. Vogtland Coilovers

2. Eibach Sport System

3. H&R Touring Cup Kit

I'm also not looking to slam my car... the Vogtland coilovers go 0.8-1.8". H&R Sports (part of the Touring kit) seem to drop the same as Eibach Sportlines (part of the Sport kit) even though the manufacturers say differently. The H&R Sport drop looks pretty low to me.

h&r will look lower, i dont know where eibach gets there numbers from but i got 1" all around from the sport suspension. even though i am happy because it rides very close to stock sport that i came from, and i dont have to worry about rubbing under any circumstance. here is a photo of what eibach sportlines will look like if you have 18 inch wheels, if you have or plan to get 19's with 235 and 265mm wide tires it will close the gap slightly. the second photo is from a few days after they were installed, as you can see from the first pic it settled nicely.

I had Vogtland springs on my E46 M3. They were very comfortable and provided a better ride compared to the stock suspension. I know you arent asking about the E46, or even their springs, but I figured I would at least give Vogtland a positive rating based on my experience with the brand.

I heard good things about Vogtland but I'd still go with the other options.

Seems like you want H&R if you dont want the boat feeling. Eibachs have almost identical spring rates to ZSP springs and will probably handle similar to your stock setup.

sportlines have a higher spring rate then pro kit, i wouldnt say my car handles similar to the bmw sport suspension at all. but then again i have sway bars and m3 bushings.

That sportline drop doesn't look that low to me. Supposedly the Sport system is supposed to be tuned stiffer, so I'm sure any of these setups would get rid of the boat feel, because the shocks would also be replaced.

Right now I'm still leaning towards Vogtland coilovers, but does anyone know if they're comfortable for our application? They're well renowned in the Audi world.

im thinking to buy vogtland spring kit for my e90 320i too.

but it lowers only 3 in front and 2.5 and the back.

i dont want the car to look facelifted.

@brocklanders what springs you use in those 2 pictures and how much the low in front and back?

Please let me know.

Thanks
