Would someone from California please explain this shit to me...

I was reading some local news today when I came across this tragic story. It's really sad and my heart goes out to the family, but can someone tell me just what this part means:

Quote:
“He is a California boy,” Patti Church said. “He doesn’t know anything about trains. We drive cars here.”

It means that Patti Church thinks that her California-born son was too dumb to know what a train is...

this.

mother is making excuses for her son. but maybe he was hazed or dared or inebriated in some way. either way, he was the only one of his group to get hit by the train, so that tells you something in itself.

first thing that went through my head

BTW, we have trains in CA; mostly for freight though. Gotta wait for them all the time at railroad crossings.

How the hell do you fall asleep on TRAIN TRACKS? I mean, there wasnt a bed of broken glass around or pile of sharpened rocks that would be more comfortable?
