Speed Limiter in Canada?

I have done a search but I have not found anything showing the top speed of an e92 335i coupe with Sport package. Wondering if it is more then 210Km/h.

Thanks
Alex

Are you drive your car in the Targa rally? I would be all over that if I lived in NFLD.

Around the mountains (if you have a Bimmer ), just kidding. If you ever come to The Rock, Gros Mourne National park is a great drive. There are turns there very similar to the ones on the BMW promotional video with the blue 335i coupe. Yes there are quite a few Newfoundlanders in the military, my young brother is one of them, stationed in Gagetown NB. I am currently living in Corner Brook.

Sept is not a good time for me, however a couple of years ago I was very close to entering my Miata. Now with the extra ponies in the 335i it’s going to be very tempting.

Thanks, Strange they don't have the top speed for cars with the sport package listed in the brochure on their web site. I think they get 155MPH max speed with the sport package in the States; it seems you are getting about 147MPH/245km/h so I guess it’s the same in Canada. Great, I guess I’ll use this to settle an argument with my little brother who says I’m buying a neutered Bimmer that is slower (top speed) then his TSX.

I was stationned in Gagetown for four and a half years. I really liked it. I think it is an underated posting. What does you brother does in the military? LOL TSX vs 335i no comparison (I think Acura makes wonderful FWD cars for the buck, minus NSX, but that is about it).

You can conceide the "Top speed" argument to your brother just to give him "some" satisfaction when you know damn well yourself that you have a better car in every aspect. Sometimes it is classier to display a coy attitude about certain things. You can shut him up when you give him a hell of a ride in your 335i (while following breakin procedure) when you take delivery. He is not far (three and a half hours driving) from Halifax you should invite him when you take delivery. Or you should pay him a visit in Oromocto/Fredericton to eat some of that breakin mileage on the Trans Canada Hwy when you get the car.

Cheers

Greatly appreciate all you military people do for us. My brother who's a Gunner in Gagetown is my youngest of two brothers. He's been there for a couple years now. He enjoys the military life and is very content in Gagetown. I visited there a couple summers ago and it's a very nice area. That’s a good idea about visiting him when I come over to pick up the car. I don't think I'll have enough time, but we'll see. The argument over top speed is with my other brother who lives in Alberta, is all in fun. He is almost as excited as I am over the 335i. The last time I spoke to him he said "I will finally get a chance to drive a real Beast." Ha!

He is lucky to have a big brother like you. If he would be my brother, he would not get to drive it. Also, If I had an older brother and he had a 997 TT I would refuse to drive his baby even if he would insist. I would hate to have something happens to the car under my watch. To each is own.

Is your yourger brother at "W" battery or the Artillery School?

^^^That has to be the most bang on statement on this forum!!

Funny thing is I met my first NFLDER in boot camp and I remember him sitting at the window in St Jean, looking at all the lights. I asked him what he was doing and he said that he never seen so many lights in his life, h e had like 2 lights and one intersection where he is from. Good people and very hard workers

NFLDERs are the most down to earth Canadians IMO. Us, French Canadians, seem to have a special ******ion with them. Maybe because they have less inhitition like French people. I know a lot of military couple made of one from Quebec and the other from NFLD. I have been In St John's twice and I had a blast both times ( I have even been screetched in so I am a honorary NFLDER). Great place to party and they have some gorgeous spots. Have you seen pictures of Deer Lake area? Simply stunning.

Any BMW in Canada with a Sport Package should have "High Speed Maximum"

This option raises the speed limiter to 255km/h. It is difficult at verify this as using BMW's REX system will show it on some vehicles.

Thanks for the kind words guys. The few Quebecers I’ve meet are very nice people also. I remember getting lost in Montreal one year when the kids were very young (would not be a problem now, they are both in French Immersion) and stopping in to a small service station for directions and the people being so kind and helpful. I think us Newfoundlanders are like most Canadians, the large majority are very kind and caring. For Newfoundlanders the feeling of isolation, both physically and culturally (similar to Quebecers ) possibly make us a little different in the way we view things.

Thanks Blam for the info. Guess things are starting to get busy for you in the next few months with the beginning of spring.

My TSX!

Got to revive this thread since you guys have been dissin' my TSX.

I give you the handling and acceleration advantage to the 335i but can't agree with:

"you know damn well yourself that you have a better car in every aspect. "

Get real. I give interior design, quality, reliability and shifter feel to the Acura. I test drove an 323 last summer and would never pick it over the TSX. Handling didn't seem that great, if any, improvement. Engine felt flaccid. Top speed of 210? Come on!

I'm sure the 335i has got balls but you pay for it. If I wanted to spend CA$70,000 for "German Engineering" I'd be shopping at the Porsch dealer.

Maybe I'll change my mind when I drive the 335i. I'm sure it'll be great fun, but not sure if it will live up to all the hype, for me. Hope it does! Maybe I'll be trading the TSX on a Bimmer in the future.

By the way, I'm the younger, non-military brother, who immensely appreciates the work you military guys do for us, ElCapitan. We also have a cousin in Afganistan now. Worry about him all the time. Don't want my brother to go but I'm sure he soon will.

Keep driving...

Hi, nice of you to chime in.

Sorry if you feel we undermined your Acura. Acuras are nice cars and yes many people agree that Honda/Acura makes some of the best manual gearboxes in the industry. And you also tested a 323. Try an M3 or a 335 and if you love driving, you will see the light. Those cars put a stupid grin on my face everytime I am behind the wheel.

I am glad you really like your TSX. It is your car and it is a nice car. Personally, I prefer Bimmers. I mean look at all the Infiniti, Lexus and other car makers in that segment marketing ads. They compare themselves to the long time recognized benchmark: the 3 series. Why settle for a "wannabe" they just dont feel as right for me.

When I was shopping for a car in 2002 I happened to drive by a BMW dealer. I was curious and stopped to see the famous bimmers. Before my testdrive I was an Audi/VW fan (keep in mind I never extensively driven anything out of cheap american cars at that point). I found the styling of BMW nice but not as nice as Audi. A test drive wowed me. The feel was ahead of anything I have ever driven before then. I told myself "Man this is what driving is supposed to feel like." The car and its driving dynamics felt like a glove. I was suprised that I was able to afford (barely) the expensive price tag and pulled the trigger. I spoiled myself and now nothing else will satisfy me.

Cheers

Hi Folks,

I should get to drive a 335i this summer, as my brother Alex (nothern) has ordered one. I'm a car fanatic. Have been for years. When I test drove the 323 I wasn't that impressed, mainly due to the lack of power. Chassis felt solid and the thing gripped well. I took it through a couple on-ramps and pushed it more than I would push the TSX (it wasn't my car, after al), but not as much as I would push the miata. I think that the 335i engine would really make the chassis come alive. The horsepower in the 323 just couldn't do it justice. I have more fun with the TSX power than I did with the 323.

Shiggy, I said "...if it will live up to all the hype, for me..." personally, not drivers in general. The 3 series has such an exalted status in the sport sedan market that I expect it to Wow me when I get behind the wheel. The 323 didn't do that for me, so I guess that's why it was a disappointing drive for me. I think (hope!) that the 335i will blow me away when I get to drive it. I've read that it is probably the best sport coupe on the market. Period. That’s a lot to live up to.

I also like to bug my brother about the neutered top speed, sibling rivalry. Hope that the sport package lets it wring out to 155 mph like in the US. Cutting the speed at 210 kph just seems so stupid. I thought manufacturers just did that when the chassis, tires and suspension couldn’t safely handle the speed. But a Bimmer! It should be able to break the sound barrier and still be rock solid. Don’t understand their logic in limiting the speed of the world’s best sport sedan to 210 kph. Just carzy!

Later...

Just carzy!

Later...
It is not speed limitted in Germany . We get in NA for liability issues. BMW are very strong in high speeds.
