Cracked rim...buy refurbished or used?

One of my rear wheels is cracked and I have a few questions about my options. Discount tire gave me an estimate for a "refurbished" wheel for $210 but I've seen private used sales go for around $100-130 What exactly is done to these wheels that are "refurbished" and do you get some sort of warranty with them? So many of these rear wheels crack that with my luck I'll go used and that one will crack 2k miles later. I'm assuming discount tire will mount and balance for free if I go through them and it'll probably cost $20 to get a shop to do it for the used wheel. Has anybody had any luck with refurbished and if so are there any better deals out there?

Buy used if you can. Problem with a refurb is you just don't know the history.

I'd rather buy refurbished from a reputable company than someone I don't know.

Refurbished probably means it was refinished and checked for major damage like cracks.

Btw, if your wheels keep cracking, then maybe it's the company? What set of wheels are you rolling on?

I've hit some pretty deep potholes going above 60mph and have never had a cracked or bent wheel on my breytons or my oem wheels.

18" oem. This is my first cracked rim but the guy at dt said he gets at least a few BMWs or Mercedes a week with cracked rims. There are a bunch of articles online about oem cracked wheels especially 06'-10' 18" staggered setup. Now that I think about it, the majority of the used wheels I found were from e90 330i sport packages trying to sell their front 2 and 1 rear bc one was cracked. Aside from welding it (no I'm not gonna do it) is there any way to fix the crack permanently? You guys mentioned refinished but I'm assuming that's just to get road rash and scuffs out.

Where do you think all of the refurbished wheels come from. If the wheels were weak enough to crach before being repaired, wait until after they are repaired. Think about it...

If it's an OEM wheel, buy a new one from Tischer BMW. That's what I did.

Well they couldn't come from the DT cracked rims. You can't fixed cracked rims which I'm assuming includes refurbish/refinish or anything else. If that were the case I would just get that done to my original. I think when they say repaired they just mean taking wheels with minor cosmetic issues and cleaning them up. It's not like they do any kind of reinforcement, refurbished ones will if anything be more prone to cracking because theyve already been slightly damaged. The used one looks good DT offers no warranty and I can't take a $320 hit from tischer. Thanks for the input everybody

Question

I purchased a certified pre-owned 335i two weeks ago, with the cross-spoke style 197 BBS wheels. Though I do not plan to track this car, from my road coarse days, I learned to periodically inspect wheels for cracks. After thoroughly washing the backside of all four wheels last weekend, I discovered a 1” long crack on the backside of the right-rear wheel, at the outside diameter where the tire bead fits into. There is absolutely ZERO sign of an impact dent. I’ve been checking the tire pressure every morning, and it is always 35 PSI. The vehicle is still under warranty, but this is my first ownership of a BMW. What should I be expecting from the dealership…a refurbished wheel, a new wheel, a cold shower?
