What could be wroing with my paint?
I was wiping my car down with some quick detailer and noticed this small section around the fuel door was looking odd. It looks like paint splashed on the panels but it may be underneath the clear coat as there was no texture to it.
Also, in some parts it looks like the paint is chipped but still, under the clear coat with no texture. Any ideas? You can see the spotting and "chips" in these pics...again, it was a fairly small section, only around the fuel door. My car was pretty filthy for quite a while and just got it washed. EDIT: sorry spelling error: WRONG***

Looks like a bad clearcoat to me... Take it to the dealer ASAP!

If it's UNDER the clear and your car has never been repainted, then that's bad factory paint and I agree with the above user. Take it to the dealer and ask to have it fixed.

You can see the splotches through the clearcoat, that clearcoat had something in it from what I can tell. Take it to a good indy paintshop, get a second opinion and then to the dealer. It looks like it may have been painted, was that car ever in an accident?

I'm guessing it was repainted at some point, it's very unlikely for a factory paint job to start showing clearcoat failure so soon. Definitely get an opinion then take it to the dealer, especially if you are under original or CPO warranty.

hmm yea I was in a pretty nasty accident a little less than a year ago (the passenger door was smashed in and I needed a new fender) and was repaired during the summer.
There was no damage in the quarter panel that needed repainting unless they were blending it, Im assuming (but to go that far?). The major parts that got painted were the fender, door, and side skirt. Im gonna check the rest of the car but so far that was the only small area. also, this car is on a lease that ends in august

if that didn't come from the factory, then i suspect possibly getting damaged in transit or at the dealership.
there's all sorts of shady stuff not released to customers regarding repairs done before delivery.... if you take it to the dealer, most likely they're not going to fix it....... |
