After first service and now counting down from 13000?

Just had my 1st service done on 11 months old 06 e90 at 18k miles. They need nothing but change oil and probably reset the computer. But the weird thing is that now it 's counting down from 13000 miles? Shouldn't it be like 15k miles? I remember it was counting down from 15k when I got it new.

For those who had their 1st service done, what item did they replace? I was pushing them to replace the microfilter too, but they won't do it because the car says I don't need that until another yr. 2 yrs seems kinda long, my other cars replace that every 6 months.

depends on your driving. The harder you drive, the faster the service countdown.

If you're that concerned about changing the microfilter, buy it and swap it yourself. A oil change every 10,000km was important to me, so I opted to pay for it.

Search for "service", lots of threads on first service.

There are some specific service items due at 30,000 miles. This is why you are counting down from a different number.

Even using a premium Full Synthetic 10k still sounds like a really long time for oil to hold up in turbo engine.

i'm weary of this since i'm new to bmws. my 335 has 2500 miles on it. do i get an oil change or anything since they told me to literally wait 13,000 miles for anything? i used to change my oil every 2,000 miles in my old mustang, but i don't really know what to do in regard to maintenence with these. heeeeelp

new cars are way better at oil efficiency and synthetic oils last much better. The oil change debate is an old one.

search for "oil change" threads if you're interested in reading.

As far as the counter, i'm inclined to agree with ledzep. certain things need to get changed at 30K

In my opinion, i would change the oil at about every 5k miles. Yea you would have to pay for it but its self assurance. I change the oil on the twin turbo lexus about every 3k miles and have a 335i on order. I plan on changing the oil in that after the first 1200 miles (like the M cars), then 5k miles after that till its due

Yup, just had my first service done at 18k last week too (oil'd already been changed many times before, and only had 3k on the current, but I figured I'd make them do it anyway) and then the counter started at 12k.

Figured it was because they need to make sure to hit the 30k window to do more than just oil.
