iPod integration

Since there is no in-dash 6cd, I really would like to avoid the thought of a trunk mounted changer.

I currently do not own own an iPod but the salesman was saying that using one with the ipod jack under the armrest was the way to go. How does this configuration work for you?

Also, I've read very briefly about a new iPod option becoming available with the March Production vehicles. Can anyone please enlighten me as to what will be different from the current iPod jack, cost, etc?

In case it matters, the car would be ordered without iDrive.

Search for 6FL ipod solution. That is the name of the new integration offered by BMW. It will be avaliable for both I-drve and non i-drive configurations. It will allow the use of the steering wheel to control the ipod, and the benefit of charging as well while being located in the armrest. According to some this is a factory-installed option only. The best alternative to seering wheel control is the monster cable adapter that charges the ipod and has a line out built in. There is a forum dedicated to this item as well.

I didn't notice at first that you are looking to order a car. In that case you really need to review this thread:

The factory installed option is $400. The dealer installed alternative will be more expensive and not as feature rich.
