Question for those with Ipod Integration

Does anybody leave their iPod in the glovebox all the time? I know that I will constantly leave the iPod home whenever I want it, but am concerned about the effects on the iPod of the cold/hot weather here in New York.

Wish there was a Phatbox for the 335.

You shouldn't leave the iPod (or any electronic device) in the car when subjected to extreme cold or heat. That leaves us folks in the mid Atlantic area a few weeks during spring and summer....

But truthfully, I have left my iPod in the car while parked at work all day in both winter and summer. It might effect the battery life, but that's about all.

Apple lists the same temperature specs for the Nano and the normal iPod:
  • Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
  • Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)

That being said, I leave my nano in the car most of the time with no ill effect so far. Electronics like cold, right?

Yeah, heat is much worse than cold. Batteries like to be cold, and so do hard drives. But not too cold (above freezing).

My iPod has been in a car for over 3 years in Florida (read: hot..).

Still works just fine, although, I don't know about the battery life now. This particular iPod was purchased to leave in the car, so it's constantly plugged in.

That's what I was thinking of doing. Buying a dedicated iPod just to leave in the car.

I know most of you don't like the iPod interface, but I leave my iPod on shuffle almost all the time, so I hoping I will have better results. Paid $400 installed, used the rewards from my BMW Visa card, so no great loss if I don't like it.

Well, my ipod has been sitting in my vehicles for the last 3 years. One year in the tropics in Okinawa and the past two years in PA and NY. I think I've covered the extremes in hot and cold. So far, I haven't had any issues with it and the battery life is still good.

You do realize that your Ipod will not shuffle the same as normal when plugged into the interface? It still shuffles when plugged in but when you come across a song you don't like it and you manually change the song it goes to the next some on your Ipod after that song, not to a randomly decided song. You then have to hit the shuffle button again to start the shuffle process over again. Shitty, I know.
