TSB on N52 fuel injectors?
Ok, I got a pretty bad misfire on Friday morning with no SES light initially. I drove it for a few minutes to see if it might clear but it didn't. As I added throttle for the first time at the bottom of my hill, the SES light came on but did not flash.
I had it towed to Edge Motorworks in Dublin, CA where they scanned it and said the code was for a bad injector seal (not sure how the car figures that out...). They searched TSBs for the code and one came up for the injectors. I haven't seen the TSB myself but I'll ask them on Monday. It says that the problem I'm experiencing is common and all six injectors should be replaced with the updated ones. The part number for the updated injector is the same as the injector in all the turbo cars. Ticher and realoem lists a different part number for the 325 fuel injector as current. Has anyone has any experience with this? I tried searching but I only found people replacing N54 injectors not N52. Edge is going to try and just replace the seal on the affected injector which is only $4. A set of 6 injectors will set me back almost $700.

Maybe your shop pulled up the wrong TSB? Never heard of this but interested in the outcome.
Keep us posted. |

I would say with 150k on the car it may not be a bad idea to replace them all if cash is available. You can replace them with refurbished units for probably 1/3 the cost of new.
Not that you need to replace 6 today, but it beats not having a ride when you least expect it while waiting for an injector to come ine the mail and dicking around under the hood when you don't feel like it. PLUS! You can write up a DIY thread! |

Where do you get refurbished injectors? Sounds like a good idea.

I had a feeling your car had fuel issues
I had a feeling your car had fueling issues, it was totally obvious on your AA vs OE dyno where your af's were reading ~15:1 through the entire rpm band.
Q: when did you get the knocking/backfire? (after driving for a while? when hot? after wot pulls?) Quote:
btw

I don't have any knocking issues anymore. I had them when I had the OE tune installed. They went away after I installed the AA tune. Also the AA tune doesn't run at 15:1. The dyno clearly shows about 13.5:1 at 1500rpm and 13:1 as the revs climb. The reason it ran so lean with the OE tune is it was programmed to do so. It was not a malfunction. My car never had any engine problems until last Friday.

Well, it just got boring. It was just a dead coil. But I found out that my high pressure power steering hose is leaking and the oil pan and a pcv line and the rear main seal and the tranny. Lol!
