Vacation Ideas
Me and the wife are going somewhere for our 10 year ann. We are 36 and 2 kids will be with the inlaws. Anyone go anywhere that was nice recently? I am thinking warm sunny and coctails by a pool or beach. Mexico or carribean maybe. I was looking at Aruba but people say too dangerous. Same with Mexico. Hawaii was on my mind but we have 5 days only and the flight alone would take a day. Just looking for any suggestions. Thanks!!

I would take a Caribbean cruise...totally safe and you get to see all kinds of cool places but aren't stuck in any one place. They give u all day to check out the little islands; go swimming at the beach, take a tour, shopping, whatever, then at nite ur back on the ship to relax eat dinner and do whatever. It's very family friendly -- definitely get the kids their own room!
Edit: 5 days is all? That's tough... |

So...you're saying you've heard Aruba is dangerous, but yet Mexico is on your list??
![]() Plus I'm not sure why Aruba would be dangerous, haven't heard that before. My wife and I recently went to Curacaou (close to Aruba) and we had an amazing time. Some really good food in Willemsted (main town) which is where we stayed. PM me if you want some more details about things to do / places to see in Curacaou. But check it out on Frommers or tripadvisor first to see if it interests you. And we felt very safe. We even did a 5km walk through a section of town that admittedly wasn't the best, but were never bothered and ignoring that, we never once felt unsafe...lots of people anyhow in the main town because you have a cruise ship per day usually. |

5 days is tough, my vote is for the Bahamas. Grand Bahama into Freeport is a short travel time. Happy Anniversary!
EDIT: Water, weather, diving, fishing, atmosphere are just as good here as just about anywhere. Just don't stay in a tourist trap mega hotel. Aruba is too far IMO. I'd stay as close as possible so you can have as much time relaxing as you can.

Cruise would be my first choice, but can probably only get 3 day.
Plan B: rent a nice house in Florida or in outer banks (N.C.). You can pick to have more secluded or more touristy area. With 2 kids, probably need more tourist type attractions. Still cruise would be more fun, and let in-laws watch the kids for the 3 days! |

Cabo San Lucas. More expensive than other parts of Mexico, but totally worth it. Much safer. Not sure what your budget is, but Las Ventanas and the Palmilla are incredible.

The Maldives in 5 days? Uh...
The DR was the worst vacation I've ever been on in my life. It's all about the hotel though. It was a year after I graduated and had no money, so we took an all-inclusive. What a mistake! ![]()

Places there are so cheap. Gotta go with a Villa. Its like 300 a night for a 5 bedroom Villa in a gated community.

My wife and I went to St Martin for our honeymoon and had a good time. Not too expensive and the pics around the net of approaching 747s 12 feet above people on the beach are pretty accurate.

Jamaica, mahn!!!! There is a small Sandals unit, about 200 rooms. Was the best all-inclusive I've ever been to. MY favorite memory of any vacation is playing chess with my son with waist-high pieces in a torrential downpour where it was 80+ degrees and once it stopped I had the bar refresh my Cuba Libre for free.
Because it was smaller unit, the staff got to know who you were, what you liked. No tipping allowed. I just had to walk up to the bar and they knew what to make. The omlette lady knew what we wanted by the 2nd or 3rd day. |
