Xede questions

I know I am going to get flamed for this and since I have a 328 it is not a decision I will have to make, but here goes.

I see many of the 335i owners here have or are planning to install the Xede. I assume that the installation of this system would void the warranty coverage of, at least, the engine and possibly other components.

My question then is, if you install Xede are you planning on forfeiting your warranty or deceiving (and consequentially defrauding) BMW by removing it prior to service?

Thanks for the links. I saw those but I am more interested in the moral angle than the technical.

naw i was just trolling in a repost, want to measure the critical mass of the flame war

you have to admit it would be pretty funny if this thread instantly turned into more manual vs auto debate

This forum is a really bad place to hang out if you're having a moral conundrum about Procede, and the 335i is a poor moralmobile in the US, as the speed limit often arrives before you glance down at the cluster.... I'm definately going to hell if Procede is on the checklist.

I have no conundrum since I do not own a 335i. I also do not believe installing ProCDEDE is immoral, or exceeding the speed limit necessarily is. I do question the ethics of knowingly installing something that voids your warranty and then deceiving the other party to the contract so they continue to abide by their obligations when you clearly did not.

ive always been in the "you gota pay to play" camp when modding cars. If you chip a turbo car, then proceed to blow the engine, a turbo, fry a clutch, etc...then you better not be putting the stock chip back in and acting like you did nothing wrong. IF the manufacture doesnt find a mod as the culprit, they will most likely fix it under warranty...in thats case I have a problem in that other future owners with similar problems are going to to be interrogated before the warrranty will pick up similar repairs. This cycle happens with nearly all late model turbo cars with huge chip tuner support.

What does this matter if you don't even have a 335 to begin with? If you don't want to void your warranty then don't install a piggyback on your car. What other people do shouldn't be a concern to you. If you don't like "deceiving" the dealership then don't do it. I have never seen a dealership let their morals help me out whenever I went in for service, instead they try to deny things under warranty so they can make more $$/hour with a higher labor rate.

i actually found some dealers approve repairs/replacements that did not need fixing, just so they could write up a higher ticket and get paid by bmw...
