only 821 miles on my 335 coupe and a sudden engine malfunction warning light?!

hi, i only have about 830 miles on my 335i, last night after i guned it off a light i had a warning light come on that looked like an engine with only half it colored in and my navigation screen said "engine malfunction! reduced power." so i pulled over and shut the car off and hit the sos buttom to call bmw assist. they looked through the manual and couldnt find an answer. But after i started the car up again the warning was gone and never came on again......what the hell was that?

It happened to my car last week with less than 4000km on it. The warning has gone off after I shut off and turn the engine back on. BUT THEN the next day a light came on complaining about the low engine low... after 5 mins it back to normal...... sigh

..... I am bringing my car to the dealer next week so I will post more info

I pray I don't run into any problems like this when I pick up my 335TT.

I have always put Premium from Chevron and BP in my cars. Never in my life has any car I've owned been running on less than premium.

Was your car warmed up first with the oil marker located one or two ticks from the cold tick mark F.M.? ...or did this happen when the car was cold?

I find the cold drivability issue still there even though BMW says it was fixed.

No my cars are all always garage kept, whether im at my school's parking structure or at my works or at home, always garage kept and its never that cold here in laguna beach and i got that light after driving around for a long time so there were no cold start issues. Plus i always allow like a 5 minute warm up for my cars whenever i first start them up for the day.

Ive actually had the same thing happen a few times, where randomly the engine weird looking warning light comes on (sorta looks like a turbo) thats half yellow and half black and i lose my turbos totally. Car becomes naturally asspirated for a while but when I restart it everything is fine again.

THATS THE SAME THING I SAW ON MY SCREEN RIGHT BEFORE MY ENGINE BLEW!!!!AND THEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY OPENED UP THE COOLANT AND ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE!!

The same thing just happened to me today too. My car has 2200 miles on it and is almost 4 months old (received it the 3rd week of Nov. 2006).

Starting my car up from work, the car sort of starting funny and idled really really rough. Then is slowly started to sputter and then stopped. I turned my car on again, started fine, still a little rough, but not very noticeable.

Drove home, about 5 minutes from my house I stop to go through a drive through, the car starts idling funny and rougher, then shuts down. The "engine malfunction - reduced power" light came on. I started my car back up, car started normally. I couldnt tell if it still had reduced power or not, I was afraid to gun it. I was also afraid at every light on the way home that it would stall out on me again, but this time for good, on a major road. If it happens again tomorrow, I'll be taking it in to the dealership to have it checked out.

I was on the way home from work a few days ago. I had been driving for about 5-10 min when i came to a red light. When I stopped, the car started idling very rough like it was having trouble keeping the enging up to speed. I shut the car off, then turned it back on and everything seemed fine.

It never threw an error code nor did i see any Check Engine light come on. I took it into the dealer today to be safe, and they said the car needed a software update.

I'll be picking it up later on. Hopefully this was the fix. After reading some posts here, I thought it may have been "the fuel pump issue".
