Another audio question: subwoofer
I'm looking for a sub to go with the Polk Monitor 70s but have no idea which ones to look at. A co-worker recommended Velodyne. I've also heard good things about BIC, HSU Research, SVS, etc. There are just too many subs out there.
I don't want to spend a lot of money on one if I don't have to so if you guys could recommend one in the $200 range that would be great. Thank you! |

Thats just a sub, JL audio makes some of the best sound quality subs on the market. Buy a box and an amp and you're good to go

IMO all of those plug and play set ups are junk, not to mention the trunk of a BMW hides bass and sound pretty well, so you wont be able to hear it. 475 watts is max power, probably actually pushing 200 watts. Waste of money man trust me

Wait I'm asking about a sub for my home theater setup. I just got a receiver and set up the system over the weekend. Now I'm looking for a center speaker and a sub to complete the setup.

How big of a room? How MUCH bass do you want? Definitive technology are good subs, thats what I have, just their 8" pro sub 800, but even its like $300 or so. $200 range, good luck man. Cant say there is much.
If you need MORE and DEEP bass, SVS is the way to go. You get what you pay for. http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-10nsd.cfm its on closeout though. Thats what I was gonna get for mine but its just TOO MUCH sub for my townhouse. Now if I had a house house...Id get me this http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-sb12nsd.cfm Best bang for the buck subs though....these things are beasts!!!!! |

It's gonna be for a 12x12 or 14x12 room. I definitely don't need a ton of bass since my room is upstairs. lol
I want something that is good enough for music and movies but not good enough for the neighbors to call the cops. lol |

http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Tec...8962115&sr=8-1 It just wont play LOW, like 20hz or so very well very loudly. You really get what ya pay for. I got it to match teh rest of my system but got it for 299 on sale from a local story years ago. Trust me...SVS or bust..if for anything, because they can play LOW all day. |

http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html A little more than you want to spend, and it appears to be out of stock. If you go with HSU, alot of times they have B-stock laying around for less money. I think I paid $300 for mine. That sub or a similar one may be too much for that small room, though. It will pis people off downstairs. HSU, SVS, Outlaw, Epik, Elemental Designs....the are all good companies. I suggest you look in this forum under the subwoofer section. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/ Probably for that small of a room an Infinity or something from Best Buy should be plenty. Good luck. |

I have 4 SVS cylinder subs and they are downright scary even with Gain at about 1/4 on each of them. Just 1 of these would be way more than you need for an average sized room. |
