Smile Vishnu in Canada, eh

Hi guys,
Been in Canada for the last few days doing some pretty intense cold weather, big turbo testing. So my apologies for not being on the forum much. I should be coming back to CA tomorrow night (or thereaboots) and will catch up to emails/PMs. If you need immediate response, please email sales@vishnutuning.com or drop us a call on the phone.

But I've learned/confirmed a few things during all this testing:

1) A poorly designed oil catch can will cause all sorts of fueling issues, misfires and other performance related silliness. That's what positive crankcase pressure does. If you are seeing weird on-boost issues with respect to cylinder to cylinder AFR imbalances or random misfires, try removing your catch can if you have one.

2) The fuel system is capable of supporting quite a lot of power on pump gas. And do so VERY consistently, run after run. We are talking 12.0-12.5 AFR from 3500 to 7000rpm with both banks reading within .1 point of each other.

3) The RB turbos are very "boost happy". So happy that they can trigger overboost codes with NO tune installed. And with a tune installed, the boost control maps needs to be adjusted considerably. In the case of the Procede, simply drop Boost Control gain user adjustable fro the default value of 50% to 35%. And then let the automatic wastegate compensation dial it in from there. If you don't do this, you will overshoot the boost target by 1-2psi, forcing the Procede to close the throttle. Very obvious when this happens. Simple fix though.

4) And the biggest news of all:

What a classic photo!

Shiv, what do you consider a poorly designed oil catch can? Any particular make?

Dzenno's catch can was from Riss Racing. The inlet/outlet port to the catch can are tiny. And the hoses that T into the PCV hose were way too long and way too small of a diameter. This is, in all possible ways, a terrible design. The hoses need to be big diameter (like the stock hose which is ~1" ID). And the inlet/outlet to the can need to be completely unrestrictive. This isn't the first time I've removed a catch can fixed random issues in the process (smoking turbos, excessive knock retard, etc,.) And I think these issues apply to some other brands as well. Makes you wonder how many cars out there are having issues and don't even know it

-Shiv

Interesting about the catch can. I think my AR Design (original version) is okay, but I'll bet a bunch of us will get real paranoid. Ha ha. My car runs great on the latest DIC map.

lol.. Mike and I just met up for drink and a late dinner. He even picked me up from Dzenno's house. No flowers though But we chatted and had a really good time! Goes to show how much better people get along in real life than in this crazy bizarro world we call the internet.

Yesterday, I also got to met with many of the other locals (marcvtec, turkish, utlimateracing335 and a few others) for a fun night out on the town. Great bunch of guys and a fantastic community up here.

only1- I do have an extra Procede here but it's a special test unit so I can't sell it unfortunately. But if you shoot an email to sales@vishnutuning.com, Robert can get one to you pretty quickly.

usc335- I agree. I'm sure some catch cans are alright. Unfortunately, i've seen more that caused problems than otherwise. No reason a properly designed unit can't work like it should.

Shiv, if you had to pick one of the current OCC in the market, which would you go with?

Thanks.

How would you pin point the catch can if you were having those related issues?

What is it meant by boost happy ? spools faster ?

Does this mean RB turbos are way better than the others or?
