Can BMW charge me more if there is a price increase after I ordered?
Can BMW charge me more if there is a price increase after I ordered? The salesman tried to tell me this and I said "I don't think so, I will walk away if you try to do that". Of course I just noticed my car went up 500 bucks. I hope I am not going to be walking across the street and buying another MB. I was going to buy a Beemer back in 98 and did not like how the dealer treated me so we ended up going across the street and MB could not have been kinder. We have been buying and driving MB's since. I figured I would give BMW another try since I loved the 335i so much.
What are your thoughts? Is the dealer able to do this? Whenever I ever buy a car it is always the price at which I ordered it. I would never make a deal on a moving target. |

I don't think so. I ordered mine on 2/27 and the CA told me that I made the cut before the price increase. As long as you have a deal in writing then that's what it is. It's done and cannot be changed without both parties coming to an agreement. But, ultimately your CA is being a greedy b@stard and not looking out for your best interests.

It is my understanding that once you sign papers and such...THAT IS IT.
Price is NO LONGER able to be haggled. Either the dealer is not well informed OR a world class douche. |

I think it depends on whether you signed an agreement of sale or just gave a deposit to order. I personally gave the CA a "refundable $500 deposit". Since there was no actually agreement of sale, I could be screwed. But if the deal goes sour, I am prepared to walk away. I don't think they will have any trouble selling my 335i coupe. I will go elsewhere since the original deal was not that sweet.

dont think so ... the dealers buy the cars from the factory, so the dealer also is paying more for the car

BMWNA is price protecting dealers on cars ordered before 3/1/07. The $80 increase in the destination charge is not protected and it's up to the individual dealer whether they want to recoup this increase from the customer.

You are protected by BMW. BMW will refund the dealer as long as the car is ordered for a customer -- and sold to the same customer. If they try to change the Last name on the order then they won't get anything from BMW.
$80 increase in destination is up to the dealer and my dealer was nice enough to take care of it.

Sgentf1 - that deler would not be located in West Chester would it? I have a car on order from there if it is the one I am thinking about. I would love to see him try and pass on that price increase to me....

If the car was odered before 3/01 and you have a production number, you are price protected by BMW and the dealer will not be charged. If the dealer agrees to absorb the 80 difference in freight, you're fortunate since most dealers probably won't since they won't be getting reimbursed for this !

I just checked on my particular options, and the car is now $380 more. $200 base, $100 ZPP, and $80 freight. When you think about it, %-wise it's only 0.82%, not even a full %. But I guess that absolute-wise it was $10 shy of what I paid for the 5 yr. tire/rim protection, so why give it up, right? |
