I made a mistake-tint
Hi everyone i live in ca and got my windows tinted. i got 20 in the back and 50 in the front. i should not have pussed out and gotten that. I really want to go 5 in the back and 35 in the front but i dont want to pay for it all over again. Do you guys know how i could get my local body shop to replace it with darker tints if possible? also do you guys think this is a good idea in california? do you think i will get a ticket? thank you everyone that replies.

You can hope they did a bad job and have bubbles in it. I have 20% all around and initially regretted it thinking I should of got 35% front 20% back. 5% imo is way too dark and tacky. Atleast with your setup, you should be find with 50% in the fronts.

I have 5% on my back window now and I cant see anything out my back window at night. You may think that's not a big deal but it really starts to piss you off after a while. I will never do 5% again.

It's not cheap to retint from what I understand it's expensive to remove tint. Don't kno if it's possible maybe they can tint over the tint if you understand what I mean.

I'm totally with you man. I got 35% all around and really wish I had done 15%... but maybe I'm too ghetto.
To answer your question... I seriously doubt they will redo it for free... maybe ask for a discount?

I have 35% all around and sometimes it is hard to see out the back. I have a sticker on my mirror to prevent autodimming. Most places will charge you full price to redo anything. I paid $225 at a reputable place and they made me sign a waiver because the law here is 50% for the front. You will need to check your local laws. Not every cop is going to cut you a break. I had some place do my old car and they only charged me $125 and it was OK. But I see the difference between them so don't cheap out. I should've gotten them done at the better place.

You may run into problems with a tinted windshield and cops in SoCal. The fact that you aren't driving a riced out civic helps. Don't drive like an a-hole and give them an excuse. A fix it ticket for tint can be a pain. You have two options pay a small fine/remove tint/get it signed off by an officer or pay an expensive fine/keep tint.

IMHO, if you tint, tint the same % all around.
There's no point trying to fool cops that your front windows aren't tinted. They can tell right away. Plus it looks like crap. I didn't tint my car because I can't tint my front windows. However, I may tint them because in Philly, cops don't care. I see people drive around with 5% tint all around. I know a girl in my apt building that has 5% all around....never gets shit for it. But when I drive back to Jersey..... |

I personally don't like the SUV look that much, but it helps to avoid tickets, although cops rarely stop for JUST tint. I'd say to see what shop could just have them removed for you and get them done again with what you want. I have 20% all around and wouldn't go any darker than that.

I got it for a little of both. I have always had tint on all of my cars for two reasons, I like the way it makes the car look (I never go darker than 20) and it makes it so that it is harder for people to see in as well as sun protection.
Just my 2 cents. |

I got 35% all around for mine, had few compliments on it ($199 out the door lifetime wrnty).
I got it so its more comfortable to drive in the sun, and block UV, and keeps car cool on hot day; It "looks" nice too. Do you guys know how i could get my local body shop to replace it with darker tints if possible? Yes, it can be removed and re tinted. also do you guys think this is a good idea in california? you wont have any problems with law enforcement in CA with 50% in the front. do you think I will get a ticket? no, I had a car in SoCal for 3 years with 20% all around, never had a problem. that being said... the LAW is that you CANNOT have any tint on the front window in CA. just a disclaimer. |

Anyone telling you you're not going to get a ticket because they didn't is giving you horrible advice. Tint on the front of the windshield is illegal. Period. If you don't get cited for it, it's because the officer is choosing not to break your chops. What kills me is when people do something they know is illegal and then complain when they get ticketed. IMHO, if you know it's illegal to get tinting on your front windshield, you pay to play...it's a crapshoot and you may or may not get caught.
That being said, I'm getting my windows tinted to whatever my state laws allow. I'd go darker, buy my own personal choice is to not get hassled. If you don't mind the possibility that you could get ticketed for tinting, go for it. |

It really is a stupid law. If I was able to afford getting tint tickets, I would put tints on my car asap. But I cannot afford to pay multiple tint tickets. And don't be the guy who asks, "How are you driving a BMW if you can't afford a tint ticket?" You can search for that answer because I've posted it many times....otherwise you can continue to be bothered by it. |
