I really never listened to either of them all that much, as you can see I edited my post lol. But yeah they were both really good!

RIP and all but really??? I dont think he was the greatest....all the best rappers just pay homage to him by saying that. I dont think his shit was that great nor should he be remembered as the "greatest rapper that ever lived". I guess its pretty pointless to say that today because all rap sucks now.... The non-comercial, non-radio stuff is whats good still.

they were entirely different rappers, with different styles, roots and delivery...because of what they were able to achieve under their circumstances, I've got equal respect for both rip |

edit: agree with much of the rest, but some categories have such different rappers/albums that labeling one over another is strictly out of interpretation |

His first album is still up there for me as one of the best ever, although I'm biased as I only got into rap around the time it came out, but it is still one of the few albums that I want to listen to all the way through

In terms of activism, kool herc and bambaataa laid the roots, then you have groups like dead prez and mobb deep which questioned society and culture through their music Influence-wise, it's just everyone who pulls the most respect and has a result has more say in which direction the game goes, the likes of nas, jay, diddy (back in the day), krs, de la, tribe, rakim, guru+premo list goes on |

imo there's a big difference between having an influence on hip-hop/black culture and selling music...50's rich, sure (wouldn't be surprised if most of his cash comes from overseas too, but regardless), but how much influence does he have in the game? In terms of activism, kool herc and bambaataa laid the roots, then you have groups like dead prez and mobb deep which questioned society and culture through their music Influence-wise, it's just everyone who pulls the most respect and has a result has more say in which direction the game goes, the likes of dre, snoop, eminem, nas, jay, diddy (back in the day), krs, de la, tribe, rakim, premo list goes on. I think today hip-hop isn't perceived as culturally significant as it used to, as a result, most "hip-hop" is just dismissed as product. Even when new and great stuff is made, such as nas/damien 'distant relatives', it doesn't get nearly the recognition it deserves b/c most fans today are brainwashed by wiz and wayne Last edited by yakev724; 03-09-2011 at 12:33 PM.. |
