Anyone tried taobao to order parts and accessories? Cheaper then buy/repairing in HK?
So my friend told me that in order to save on the expensive maintenance and repair cost to fix your bimmer in HK, he order bmw parts and accessories from the mainland website taobao (http://www.taobao.com/index_global.php) (or go to shenzhen) to order the parts you need.
All you need to know is the parts number of the particular item you want to buy or replace and taobao can deliver it to you (which, according to my friend, is much cheaper then getting one in HK) and then give it to the local HK garage to install. So you will only need to pay for the labour cost in HK and you save alot from ordering the parts yourself. That sounds great, but given it's the mainland, there is the big reliability question. Maybe it's just my bias, but I don't trust alot of those mainland websites. So anyone has tried taobao? Is it a trustworthy site? Any big problems with it? Are the parts delivered as advertised? Are the quality of the mainland parts on par with the parts ordered in HK? And how do you get the parts number in question? Last edited by JohnMan; 03-13-2011 at 09:44 PM.. |

I've order a few items from taobao before.. But nothing of importance like brake pads.. Mostly cosmetics stuff. Like the B/W roundels... It's much much cheaper and delivery is really quick with SF express.
With regards to quality, u get what u paid for.. I ordered a m3 trunk spoiler for 200 rmb, but when it got here, it's all scratched and the edge is not too even. Its been lying around and I need to ask the body shop to see if it's worth the time to fix and paint. But for 200rmb, it's really not much to lose. Branded parts from the states are usually much more exp! Remember rmb is getting higher and higher! |

Thanks for the info, I was asking about it since I would like to have a cheaper option when it's time to replace or change parts on my bimmer (since some of it is so darn expensive). But looks like I'll have to be real careful about that on taobao. What about going to bmw dealers or shops in the mainland (i.e. Shenzhen) direct and buy it from them? Will that still be cheaper in HK but more reliable then taobao?
