does bmw do a "good" new car prep?
my mom just ordered a 535xi and my dad an X5M...i have heard some things that bmw does a shotty job at detailing the brand new car and even not properly removing tape and plastic which leaves marks on rubber pieces on the car..
is this true? i cant see any harm in them doing the interior but we were thinking of getting the exteriors of the cars professionally detailed and prepped instead of bmw doing it..anything i should tell bmw not to do? thanks in advance!

interior will be greasy if they do it
exterior will have wax on plastic trim (if any plastic on exterior) buffer trails all over, possibly burned trim pieces I would hire it out completely, but have the interior protected with NON-Greasy product like 303 or 1z cockpit premium |

Almost all dealers do a bad job at new car prep, BMW is no different. Do it yourself or find a professional detailer to do it for you.

Take delivery as-is and take it to an expert for the initial cleaning. You would be shocked how much brand new cars need to be cleaned.

They did a horrible touch up on my CPO. All they did was use a touch up stick. Didn't even stand it or clearcoat. Now it's coming off and I have spots of warn out paint showing.

I've had quite a few customers in the past purchase a new BMW and opt out of the dealer's new car prep- including Euro delivery or picking up at the Performance Center in NC (or SC?). The techs still perform the PPI, and often remove the in transit materials; but ideally have a pro detailer treat and protect the car correctly from the start. It might get you some funny looks and a not so friendly hello from the dealership detailers; but starting with less swirls means ending with less swirls. |
