I just recently bought an 07 335 and ive noticed that when i step on the gas on stand still there is a lag and then it suddenly flies. Is there any ideas on how i can correct that?

Put it in drive sport, btw make sure you never floor it until your oil is warmed up.

get a Tune. That'll reduce the lag by a lot, if not all of it.

I believe if you stomp on the pedal, (the point of the click), the car downshifts which would be the delay you are feeling. As for the little delay when you first get the car at stop lights (with moderate acceleration), that goes away after a while (maybe its the car getting "used" to you?)

For stomping on the pedal, how about if you start in first gear? I still have that bit of lag when I'm stomping on the pedal AND i'm in first gear. The weird thing is, the lag can only be felt when I'm fully pressing the pedal..

If your auto then put it in drive sport there is virtually NO LAG. If your 6mt, then downshift into a low gear before getting on the gas....its that simple.

don't forget, even tho it has a nice set of small turbos, it still has turbos

what RPM does the boost kick in? if it's around 3K, then it could be a software issue that may need updating. under that, it's the characteristic of the vehicle.

With moderate acceleration from a stop (not clicking the gas pedal), the car does have noticeable turbo lag. Like others have said, use sport mode, or shift yourself, to get around this. I find sport mode too jumpy for my liking, and prefer to use the paddle shifters. There will always be a little turbo lag no matter what.

Have a dealer do a key read and check your software level. If the software has never been updated, for some reason, that's the problem. '07 and some '08 cars had a version that resulted in excessive turbo lag. Newer software will fix most or all of it.

If you are noticing it just when the car is cold, then it's normal -- the engine computer limits boost until the car warms up.

Yes, there may be lag. And, no, it doesn't have to do with the turbos. It had everything to do with the engine softare.

I first bought my '07 335i E93, when you hit the gas it started going RIGHT NOW. But at my first annual maintenance they put on new software and the lag started. So for the second year, I had to put up with the lag. I complained with my next service and they put newer software on it. It started acting a little better, but not quite like the original software.

So my only suggestion is to see if you can get a newer software load on your car. It might start acting a little better.

As a preface to op's question: lag is NOT normal on the 335i. IIRC you actually make a teeny bit more torque between 2-5k rpm than the NA V-8 M3.

The story is more complicated than "new software will fix it".

Before a certain month in '08 (I recall July, but I may be wrong), the wastegates installed in 335's were subtly defective. They would rattle.

In order to fix this "rattle" without actually swapping any hardware, BMW introduced a software fix that ALSO increases turbo lag.

After complaints, BMW has included an option to update the software with the old wastegate operation -BUT-
#1) this option has to manually be selected by the tech before the update. So you have to SPECIFICALLY ask for it, and your dealer has to know what you are talking about.

#2) it will cause the wastegate to rattle.

My August '08 has no rattle and no lag.

P.S. Maybe it's not truly tubo lag. Before you go looking at the software
#1) try sport mode.
#2) reset the electronic throttle adaptation. Search the forum for instructions on how to do it.
