Swearing
Is swearing allowed on this forum? I'm noticing more posts with this kind of language and am going to have to not browse this at work anymore if it continues. I have reported one reply today.

i smell a rat.
here are the rules: Hey all, and welcome to the E90Post.com chat forums. I hate to have to do this, but here are some basic rules to keep this forum a fun place for everyone. 1) Respect. By far the most important rule here. Through the generations of BMW, enthusiasts have come together for the love of the car and the community. So the basic rules of real life apply here, show each other respect and you will get respect as well. Don't bash someone else here because you feel like it. 2) Search. These forums tend to accumulate knowledge, and so when you have a question do a simple search first. Alot of times, the best answers will be found in old threads that have gone over the topic in detail. If you can't find your answer or are still unclear, then by all means don't be afraid and post your question. 3) Disagree, don't attack. Disagree on topics, but try to leave it at that. Just because you don't like someones opinion on the car's engine, doesn't mean you should call him and his mother all sorts of names Disagreements are awesome, and you should call someone on something you don't agree with, but don't go out of your way to insult and flame someone. Please consider if you would say to someone's face the same thing you are posting. 4) Help. Be helpful, we are all probably here because of a question and people will go out of their way to help you. Try to do the same if you have the answer to a question posted. BMW-E90 enthusiasts have to stick together ! 5) Offtopic in Offtopic forum. Well this should be self explanatory 6) Make suggestions in the suggestions forum. We promise to do our best to accomidate your suggestions. We've made so many changes around here already based on people feedback and we love doing it, its part of the fun for us ! These rules will be enforced but only to improve everyones stay here In the end, we're all enthusiasts here, so help each other out ! |

No rat (I dont really understand what you mean by that), I've no problem with any kind of discussion. The f word is on this forum in more than one place. I also have no problem with any member on here either.
I browse this site everyday as I'm in love with my car and like to find out as much as I can. Still no answer to my question though! |

well, there is no real rule on it. I didn't think there really had to be one, lol. JUst be reasonable with curse words, like in real life.

I've been guilty... sometimes for effect, sometimes for ranting. I try not to "aim" the F bomb at anyone... that gets touchy... Like Mark says, some common discretion helps.

I over look what I type to check for any possible problems and fix them before posting or hitting the handy "Post Quick Reply" button, and if someone else notices something I edit the mistake and correct it accordingly. I think a majority of us are up to good things here.

In this day and age, words like fuck and shit are acceptable (and well used) emphatic words in American business and popular culture. What you call swearing is just adding panache to language. As Longtran pointed out with the repost of the forum rules, there is a difference between being insulting and stating an opinion. To opine that "The Chrysler drives like a pice of shit" hurts no one.
The Religious Right, much like George Orwell's 1984, is very interested in the destruction of language as a method of thought control; remove the words from the vocabulary, and the concept no longer exists. Censorship of words like fuck and shit is only sought by those who wish people to not think about the existence of non-procreational sex or natural bodily functions, or worse: those who cannot think for themselves. One thing that I realize is that if I am offended by something, it is solely MY PROBLEM, not yours. And I will always be more offended by closedmindedness than words.

No word offends me - its work I worry about Our internet usage policy is quite strict. We are supposed to hit the back button if we browse anything that could cause offence (not just to me, but anyone who could possibly see my screen)etc etc. Not my rules - I just work for them We aren't even allowed to have desktop images on. |
