Oil leak behind serpentine belt
car: E90 06 325i, 56K miles, under CPO till sep 11
Folks, need a help here. Seeing a slight Oil leak on Engine Block just behind Serpentine Belt area and below head gasket. No leaks on gasket under the Engine Cover though. fyi, lifters were replaced last summer for ticking noise. Should I take it in for check with dealer. If it is something, that needs, changed, will it covered under CPO? |

Could be the broken head bolt problem
They use aluminum head bolts because of the magnesium block this is a common problem or at least the most common reported for oil leakage in this model . There are many threads on it. If its under CPO you have a good chance of getting them replaced .

why only a good chance? Seems like it should be covered, although don't quote me because I've found that BMW resists everything even under a full factory warranty, let alone an extended one.... |

It was Oil Filter Housing Gasket..couple of hours at dealer..under CPO..could not be more happier..(bumere90..you were spot on)
I read in a thread (after I got the car) that coolant must be drained and refilled. But could not see any reference to that in the work order. |

CPO is great!
My vehicle had (what I thought) was a small oil leak from the oil filter housing gasket. I called the dealership to make an appoinment for service since I knew my CPO warranty was about to expire. Well...my warranty was expiring the next day. Needles to say, I took my car to dealership that day and dropped it off. I got a loaner (335d, what a car!). The next day I called my SA and he said that two head bolts sheared off and that was causing the oil leak but, BMW would cover it under the CPO warranty. The dealership kept the car for 5 days, including the weekend.
They ended up replacing the head gasket and all related hardware and fluids. My final bill $53 plus change. I am a happy camper with a renewed trust in dealerships...So, if you have an oil leak it may be something simple...or not. If you have a warranty, take it to the dealership right away. if you don't...good luck!
