161 wheels with 255/40/17 all around?

im trying to run the widest tires on stock 161 wheels with sports suspension on a E90. i want to run 255/40/17 on all 4 corners is it possible? i do most of my driving in the city with rough roads so i want to stick with 17s. any input is appreciated

I don't know if you can do it, but whether you can or not, I don't think it's a good idea.

The sports package on the E90 is designed to run a staggered setup with 225/45/17 on 8" wheels up front and 255/40/17 on 8.5" wheels in rear. If you go with a square setup, you'll deviate from the setup BMW designed, built and tested under various conditions. You'll undoubtedly change the handling.

I wouldn't run a 255 on an 8" wheel. Unless you get a set of 8.5's for your fronts as well, don't do it.

Are you talking about four 8.5" wheels or 255 on the 8" front wheels?

A square setup changes handling for the better. I have two sets of 161's and I run the fronts with all seasons, 17x8's, all around. I have the rears ready for summer tires. I still haven't decided on what size tire yet though. When I do, I'll be running them all around. FWIW, the rear 17x8.5 et 37 with a 255/40R17 runflat fits fine on the front of the e90.
